Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I simply can't believe the amount of pros who believe Chelsea are a club with a great history. Shows just how little they know. Heard that idiot Cundy talking about whether BAE was good enough for Chelsea. Do one, flukes their way to the CL and they are world beaters. Had it not been for Drogba, we would be considered a better side after last year and we probably would have signed players they got in the end.

Cundy's a Chelsea fan I believe.

Re: Gareth Bale

It seems that those of us who want Bale to stop diving want him to get a serious injury. If an Arsenal player came out and said he dived to avoid contact, there is now way any Spurs fans would buy it. And nobody is defending ****s like Adam, but that doesn't give Bale the excuse to dive.

Exactly

Re: Gareth Bale

That is pathetic. So those of us who do not like to see our players avoiding contact are not genuine fans?

So, according to this line of thinking, should our CB's and keepers jump out the way or are they not classy enough for that? Will you condemn Loris next time he dives at a players feet?

How do international class players who are expected to put their bodies on the line relate to others who have special dispensation to avoid contact?

Where will this lead the game? Before you know it all attackers will have an anti-tackle clause in their contract.

Sanctamonious claptrap. It is all very well sermonising from the stands that this player or that player shouldnt "dive". We have no idea what it is like to play at this level.

Dont you find it strange that some of the most skilful players in the game are labelled "divers". Henry, Drogba, Messi, Nani, Suarez, Bale, Young, Ronaldo. Look at the common denominator. They are fast skillful players often targetted by thugs like Adam and the like. Is it surprising they have all developed a defensive self preservation mechanism? This is among the most basic human instincts. Funnily enough, I dont see any CBs and goalkeepers on this list.

Where diving becomes cheating is when a player appeals for a foul when he hasnt been fouled. That is plain cheating. It is not the dive or evasive action in itself that is the problem.

Just be grateful we have one of the worlds leading players at WHL and enjoy his skills. Those who are quick to criticise this aspect would be the first to moan if he decided to leave WHL because of the lack of support he receives.

Yes the skilful players are targeted but I don't think this point really stands up as you could equally make a different list of skilful players who are not considered divers. And I wouldn't call Messi a diver, nor Ronaldo who seems to have stopped it too.

One might also argue it is the attackers that dive because they stand to gain the most from that behaviour - pen, free kicks around the box, etc.. And it is not unheard of that keepers and defenders go down very easy when it suits them too.

Diving is cheating and I can't understand why there is an argument about it. Bale has been already labelled as a diver and it is up to him to shake that tag.

Re: Gareth Bale

diving is cheating but still within the rules of the game, which right now say its the job of the ref to sort it out.
the EPL can easily introduce trial-by-video - at half time or after-the-game if they wanted to change things around.

re-read the penultimate paragraph of my earlier post if you want to understand the difference. Cheating is where one tries to get an unfair advantage illegally. Diving per se is NOT cheating. Appealing for a foul when one hasnt in fact been fouled IS cheating.

Re: Gareth Bale

Former Wales player Mickey Thomas feels Ronaldo's Real Madrid and Messi's Barcelona will soon be "fighting for Bale's signature".
"It's probably the best I've seen [from a Wales player]," said Thomas.
"I played with some great players in my career but, watching that performance, not just his goals - his ability to create opportunities for his team-mates - and when he's in that mood and when he's in that stride, he is unstoppable.

"I've seen the best. I've seen Ronaldo; I've seen them all. He's on a par with them now.
"The only difference is they play for Barcelona with players like Messi. He's at Tottenham.
"Let me tell you, he will be at one of those clubs before too long. Those top teams - Barcelona and Real Madrid - will be fighting for his signature, for sure."

This really tinkled me off this morning. Why has it got to be that all the best players suddenly apparently have to be touted by the biggest teams? Why whenever our best players are on form does every man and his dog in the media have to give them a reacharound and say they should be playing at a higher level?

Fvck them all, Bale is a Spurs player, he's enjoying it here, we're doing well, leave us alone.

Exactly. Long may he continue to enjoy it at WHL - and not get hacked off by moaning "fans" having a go at him about his diving, hurdling, jumping, leaping etc etc to avoid injury.

Lets all appreciate what we have got in Bale and stop criticising him.

Re: Gareth Bale

Where is it written in stone that the best players in the World have to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona?

Select your own Top 100 players of all-time and I'm sure only a small percentage would have played at either club.

Re: Gareth Bale

at least at Real and Barca the fans tolerate diving. Would be good for Bale not to have his own fans on his back

I understand that you are trying to make a distinction between diving and cheating but I disagree with you. The appeal for a foul after a dive only compounds it. The ref might give a free kick irrespective of an appeal.

Maybe we are debating the definition of the word 'diving' but I'm taking it as a player going to ground without being touched for the intention of getting a free kick. This to me is cheating. If he falls because he loses his balance or whatever then fine, that is different. I don't class that as diving, nor would anyone else I imagine.

Re: Gareth Bale

there doesn't have to be contact for it to be a foul

exactly, if a player slides in and invades the space you would be running in to, if you jump over that challenge, don't get touched but lose your balance on landing, that absolutely should be a foul (mostly is tbf as well). This is what I think Bale was antcipating with Guzan, but I don't want to open up that can of worms again.
