Full backs - when are ours going to deliver?

Walker already does and Rose never will.

Specifically though, they will never be effective in an attacking sense while we persist with an orthodox winger.

Walker can never overlap Lennon, because Lennon is already hugging the touchline. There's more potential for it to work on the left with Siggy/Chadli/Eriksen there, but Rose just isn't really capable enough.

I don't think Jesus Navas cut in-side often but hugs on the line however his partnership with Zabaleta looks mile better than Lennon + Walker.

At the end it still base on the understanding , the cohesion and most importantly what they do in training. Which sadly i can't see any of these in our team.

One think i am frustrated about is not to try too hard , take the right decision [ i) pass the ball back or to the center , re-start the build up , ii) able to realize that there is no space / the space is too tight to put in a good cross , iii) dribble is not a good option when facing two defenders ]

But whatever it is a 2 on 2 (SMF + SB) , 3 on 2 , 2 on 3 (SMF + SB vs opponent SMF + SB + 1 CM ) , 2 on 1 or even 1 on 2 / 3 situation , Rose and Walker , as well as Townsend just always play like 1 on 1 , take the ball and try to go pass the opponent and eventually gave out the possession ( poor delivery , bad pass , run the ball out of line).

I think Walker has improved his decision making in this regard quite a lot over the last couple of seasons.

Used to be that him and Lennon had no understanding and Corluka's passing was sorely missed. Lennon and Walker look much improved now.

Walker's passing still lets him down from time to time, but it's been improving somewhat steadily.

Worth keeping an eye on Martin Olsson this afternoon, he's been outstanding whenever I've watched Norwich this season.

I'm afraid I don't agree. They still like strangers to me. We have to make our mind up which type of full back we want. If we JUST want a defensive full back then Naughton would be ok doing that and paired with a more attacking winger say Townsend (or maybe one day Lamela!) would be a better pairing. However, if we want our full back to join the attack and provide width, then A Walker type would be better paired with a Lennon type, to make the use of the small mans defensive covering.

But Lennon and Walker have played together now for the better part of what 4 years and still they don't do it together for me.

Naughton is not a premier league fullback.
Rose has been poor at best and today shocking.
Walker is having an okay season, personally at the moment I would play Fryers at LB. Rose is an accident waiting to happen and his actions constantly pulls Verts out of position and lopside our defence. LB is the only part of our team that needs surgery - the rest just needs to blend together, the players are good enough.

We missed walker today, he sees a lot of the ball when it gets passed along our back four and drives us forward quite well.

That said, we've missed Sandro for even longer, what I would give to see him in the side over bentelab.

Agreed about Walker, he often injects energy and intensity into us just by the sheer force of being close to superhuman in terms of pace, power and stamina. Even though he often lets himself and us down with some shoddy passing and crossing.

Agree about Sandro too, we've missed him. Even though I would personally rather see him next to Bentaleb instead.

Still yet to see what Danny Rose is supposed to be good at. Give me Lee Young Pyo, Atouba, Edman, Ekotto ahead of him any day. Hell I'd even consider Gilberto!

In all seriousness this guy has a lot to learn still and it think the decision to go into this season with him as our only left back was simply barmy

This x1000

Crazy decision by AVB to install him as the starting left back and an equally dumb decision by Sherwood to stick with him and not recall Ekotto.
