Full backs - when are ours going to deliver?

Would you be motivated if you were a regular in teh PL and then suddenly loaned out to a championship team?!? I'd be pretty ****ed off!

I'm sure he is but playing ****e is not going to rectify the situation for him. Or maybe he sees it as he'll be back in the summer irrespective so he truly doesn't give a fook about QPR to even try that hard.

Actually I was one of those demanding his recall in January, and even with his poor showings for QPR I'd still have him back as LB cover.

This is a major issue for me and one that if I was coach it would rate very highly on my givash[tometer!!!

I actually believe in both Walker & rose, i dont think we should throw money at other options...I think it will be more beneficial for us to DEVELOP the two players mentioned! I saw gutter boy saying that Walker never overlaps I disagree strongly with that! Interestingly I think that Walker is better defensively than Rose but Rose's crossing is more effective...to be fair to Walker is crossing is abysmal at times.

Keep the two players who are already integrated and have a history with our club....lets work hard to develop our young talent of which there is alot more than just Walker & Rose...over the coming months force Rose to watch dvd's of Maldini & Carlos.....force Walker to watch DVD's of Alves & Cafu!!!!

Defensive deciscion making/positioning pass & move & crossing is what we have to work on with our two full backs....if we cant buy the finished article we are going to have to try and create it!

Both Rose & Walker will frustrate and probably more barainfarts are on their way from the pair of them...but I do believe the can and we will make them into better players with solid coaching!

Walker has impressed me this season. He's is noticeably trying to improve his game. Trying to improve his set pieces and obviously working hard on the training pitch. Thats all you can ask from him. Also there was a game this season where we were a goal down and most of the players heads were dropped but Walker was taking the attack to the opposition trying to make things happen and leading by example.

Personally I think Bale's transformation had shown him what he could possibly do if he puts the work in. He's never gonna be the brightest though.

Rose? Never gonna make it. Said a few things about being left out that betrayed his attitude. And he has a nasty streak in dangerous tackles I personally dislike.

Actually agree, Walker can be coached and there actually were a few rumors re bigger clubs in January (which tends to be better judgment of a players ability).

Rose is not good enough, and quite honestly being good at lower lever PL clubs is not the same as Spurs, to me, LB is probably our highest priority upgrade position in summer.

Agree with this post, well said.

Depends what you expect them to deliver. Rose is never going to be good enough to be playing in a top 6 side and I'm still scratching my head as to how he's fooled so many people into thinking he's good enough at this level. As mentioned before, his crossing is poor, he's petulant and most importantly isn't a very good defender.

Can't remember who posted it, but a poster mentioned how if Walker doesn't make a huge **** up then he gets a high rating in match/ratings thread which shows he's prone to mistakes. He's been good this season but he needs to improve with regards to positional sense.

I rate Walker extremely highly. Its great having a right back like him 'in the pocket' - you can just field him without giving it a second thought. Really underrated and still young and improving. He's going to be a real beast once he reaches his pomp.

I don't like Rose. He seems to have a real nasty streak; not as in a hard competitor, more being a complete twaat with a huge chip on his shoulder. Looks like an angry young man with some mental issues to me. Average, at best, and a liability with a red card, high tackle, penalty in him at all times. Craap. Needs upgrading, which in all honestly, shouldn't be remotely difficult.

I have similar concerns with Rose's mentality, obviously you can be a dingdong as well as a top class LB (Cole for example) but Danny has a certain recklessness and spite about him at times. When he first came in to the team and had a run of 5 or 6 games a few seasons ago I thought he looked a mature player but another side of him seems to appear once in a while unfortunately.

Having said that I've seen games where he has put in some good deliveries in the box.

As for Walker, his crossing has always been one of his weaknesses, in some games the amount of crosses that have bypassed the box and gone out of play (either on the other flank or in to the crowd behind the goal) has been quite astounding. It's obvious it's something he needs to work on so hopefully he'll improve..

Walker without his pace is a scary thought, he can be atrocious positionally at times but his pace often saves his blushes and in fairness he's managed to be fairly consistent this season, replacing him would not be cheap. Rose on the other hand has a more rounded game but he's at a lower level to Walker and will likely never amount to much more than backup for a top side.

In fairness to both we look a better side with them in it with the squad we have, sure they could both be improved upon but it would likely cost the club upwards of £30m.

I agree. They both have sufficient raw material to work with - pace, power, aggression ( sometimes too much!) great shots, strong tackles that we should be working with them to polish these up.

Both have also shown they CAN cross a ball, just not well or consistently enough. If there was one aspect that we should concentrate on with them, it is this part if their game. It would add immeasurably to our attacking potency IMO.

Can we also add in the teams overall inability to work a short throw in?? A lot of the time Walker winds up and launches it down the line losing us possession when a short throw is better.

Couldn't Rose be out John O'shea/Wes Brown/Phil Neville tho?

a versatile squad player that has grown up with us.

There's no way Walker would walk into Emirates Marketing Project's, Arsenal's or Chelsea's side

Well, he was on the PSG rumor list in January, and a couple of pundits had put him as the buy Moyes should be looking at for United.

City/Cheat$ki will buy the most expensive player in the world for a position, so not sure it's relevant, but who does the scum have as a RB? (seriously, don't know), is he really better than Walker?

Walker has upped his game a lot since Christmas. Seems more sensible in his play now. I wouldn't swap him for anyone at the mo

None of our fullbacks looked good in AVB's system, the high pressing line constantly leaving them in no mans land when we lost the ball. Walker looks a far better now he's playing a more conventional attacking fullback role. His crossing needs to improve but defensively he's not bad.
Rose is good going forward, but I don't think he'll ever be a good defender. Our best left back is out on loan.

One thing that I think Walker doesn't get enough mention or credit for is that he's a really composed, technically proficient player. Not in the final third in terms of dribbling and crossing (both woeful), but in deeper positions in terms of being composed on the ball, making a bit of space for himself, not giving the ball away etc.
