We didn't look clueless Sunday? I don't know how you can say we didn't play some good football under him. Also he did have a problem keeping his mouth shut but I think more than a few of our current lot could do with a public tongue lashing at the moment

The people on here who absolutely slate him with the backstabbing vile human being malarkey(I'm looking at scary and gutter boy) what are your actually experiences with the man i take it you know him personally or your paths have crossed at some point at least? I'd love to actually hear some of the stories about the man and his acts my dad got it in his head he's a wrong but had absolutely no idea I'm not doubting he isn't but would like to know why?

From the Villa game to the Stoke game, what were we trying to do? Different systems, different selections, but very ragged football and hugely vulnerable in defence. Very Similar to Sherwood imo, except that with Sherwood, we always looked like we had more goals in us against the 'lesser' teams.

I want Poch to succeed, but being objective about it, Sherwood was doing a lot better with pretty much the same players. His league record was very good.

*edit* just to add, Sherwood got 1.9 points per game over 22 games in the league. For a 38 game season, that makes 72 points. We'd be delighted with that for this season!

Also, just to add, AVB's points per game in the 'Sherwood Season' was 1.69 after 16 games, which comes to 64 points for the season.

I would imagine that they said thanks to each other - especially as Sherwood was captain of that Blackburn team that finished 2nd in the league in 94 and then won it in 95. Sherwood also made the PFA team of the season that year, but I'm sure you'll still rewrite history and say that he was **** and played little or no part in their success.

Based purely on what he delivered on the pitch, I would have liked Sherwood to have been given a full season to play his players in his way and see what would have happened. However, he cooked his own goose by his off-field antics and really his position was untenable at the end.

Nevertheless, to all those that want "a supposed class act" like AVB or Poch (so far) that would be great IF they also delivered on the pitch as well.

Personally, I don't care how big a Knut or "Classless" our manager is provided they deliver good entertaining football, lots of excitement and goals with trophies galore at the end of it.

Look at many successful managers, including Cloughie, SAF, Mourinho, Wanger, all Class A ****ers off the pitch but do their teams deliver on it? Are they all revered by their fans (except the mindless Gooners ones!). I am sure we would love to have some off that "classlessnes" here at the moment. To be a top manager you have to be ruthless. Nice guys rarely cut it at the top level. Is Poch too nice?

Oh and to answer the question the thread title poses I think we probably would yes.

He made a good job at making do with what he was given in the second half of last season and my suspicions are that we would've added two or three proven players with a winning mentality in key positions (CB, CM, CF) and pushed on.

I truly hope that Pochettino turns things around and makes me eat my words this season and in many seasons to come, but at this time seeing what I have seen of our team this season under him, I don't think he will do as well as Tim did.

Excellent points. I also think that a lot of Tim's antics came after he heard second hand that he wouldn't be continuing as manager this season no matter what happened.

I love this stat:

We scored 3 goals or more in more league games under Sherwood (six months) then we did/ have done under avb and pouch combined in their almost 2 years.

Not bad for someone who was 'dim' 'didn't know what he was doing' etc etc.

I still haven't given up hope with pouch... But I am wavering. And I did say that we should only replace him with someone that was a clear upgrade with a proven prem track record... Like benitez. Finishing 8th with Southampton is not a proven prem record,... Or at least not a very good one.

I don't think Sherwood was the answer, by the way. Just pointing out that, in terms of points, he did well. If he'd have handled the PR side of things better, I think Levy may have given him a crack at it this season too.

For Poch, it's too early to judge him imo. Let's give him this season, as long as we don't get relegated (!) then just have no expectations of our league finish. Who knows, we could yet win the league cup. Mainly, I just want to see a semblance of a good system being implemented, with players playing to it. Hopefully we'll be in a position to have a good bash next season.

So, Pulis by Christmas it is then...:lol:

Sherwood polarised fans and players. We got results. Not amazing results. We still got battered by the top teams. And he was horrible in the media. Some players he disliked and made it public and the ones he liked clearly played for him. The football was horrid to watch. I went to a fair few home games and it was disjointed and we were poor defensively. He had a remit to get us 4th place or jog on. He thought he could, then realised he couldn't and then turned in to a bitter cry baby and refused to accept that he had promised something he could not achieve. He left and we hired a promising coach with a good CV. It hasn't clicked yet. It may well do. But by GHod we are better off without Tim.

Any team with SaS up front would have won the league that season. The best thing Sherwood did for that team was to miraculously keep his flappy trap shut long enough to avoid backstabbing them all and ruining the team.

Absolutely this.

His results came from Ade having a point to prove. Once the point was proven and Ade went back to stealing a living the performances dropped.
