Europa League - Round of 32: Fiorentina (ITA)

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

The only way we don't qualify is if we lose and Man U win. So a Villa/Man U double returns £150 on a £10 stake.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

MUFC XI to play Saintsfc: De Gea; Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Januzaj, Fletcher, Kagawa, Welbeck; Mata; van Persie.

They are taking this **** seriously.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

i really think we could have a great league campaign without the thursday sunday scheduling but its gonna be another year of flying to crap countries and playing too many matches

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

They are chasing goals with that line up, goals that they don't need. One will do. It's a load of first teamers strong players but to me I don't think tactically they are being shrewd. Better ways to win or lose a game depending on what they want to do

I hope Saints tank them.

I'm sorry, but what constitutes a craap country? There are no failed states in Europe; Somalia, South Sudan or CAR style, so I'm interested in hearing what in your opinion constitutes a craap country. I think I take offence to that comment. Is Norway a craap country in your opinion?

whats a wonk? referring to countries such as norway as craap suggests to me you've never been any further than the end of your back garden. possibly not the case but an embarrassing statement none the less.

the fact that we have never come anywhere near winning the tournament suggests that it certainly is our level. the early rounds we can stroll through, there are always big hitters and exciting teams in the latter stages. did you watch benfica dismantle us? i doubt they'll be thinking the tournament is craap; or do you count italy (juve) and spain (valencia) as craap countries too?

EDIT: and yes, i'm more than happy watching my team play the likes of tromso and anzhi, who have themselves qualified for the competition and are there on merit. i'd certainly rather watch spurs play tromso than man utd play tromso.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

i live and work 6000 miles from home so i know a lot about travelling, embarrassed? not in the slightest, i call it how i see it. In fact I'll say it again, Norway is a crap footballing country which is not surprising given their climate, population etc. Of course in the semi finals of every tournament, there will be some good matchups but what about the 15 odd games before then and the ridiculous 3 from 5 group system. I'd much rather Tottenham win a CL place then play POOR teams in far flung places and then have to play CL dropouts to win a cup that's derided by many.

Those that enter the first round of the FA Cup are there by merit but for very good reasons we're not expected to bother our arses playing them.

If the UEFA were properly seeded (with us going in at the quarter finals) then I wouldn't have an issue with it.

The 3 from 5 group system hasn't been used since 2008/09.

We've been in the EL in each of the last 3 seasons but only reached the quarter-finals once - at which point we lost. It's difficult to see how we could be justified direct entry to the quarter-finals. How many places do you think there should be that go straight to the quarter-final stage? Everton (they did finish above us)? Inter Milan? Lyon? Sevilla? PSV?

There should be as many or as few as can guarantee we don't end up risking/tiring our players against FC Pigfarmer from Lithuania.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Well I am looking forward to it, even if nobody else is.

Strange though, its apparantly that cr@p we still cant get a ticket for some of the away games if we can get the chance to go!

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

I want us to win this competition.

Not many teams have 3 uefa cups to their name. We could become one of them.

And... doesn't the winner get into the champions league now?

It does. This should actually make the comp a little more competitive next season, and possibly the new man might show it a little more respect

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place
