Europa League - Round of 32: Fiorentina (ITA)

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Assuming Arsenal finish 4th - Hull will only start in the group stage if they win the cup, otherwise they start in the 3rd qualifying round and 5th place gets the group stage spot.

So assuming we qualify... what's our preference? Gooner debacle but EL qualification round or let them have it and save us two extra games?

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Now that it's in our own hands, Hull to win the FA Cup all the way.

Starting our season on 31st July is a very small price to pay for Arsenal not winning the FA Cup. No brainer for me, also means the mid-season break is shorter than normal too

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Man UTD really don't want to play in the EL do they?

If so, they might as well finish the job off and draw with Hull on Weds night, then we can have a relaxing afternoon next Sunday without staring up at the Jumbotron for updates from St Marys

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Hull will go straight into the Group stage 18 September 2014
Everton will go in to the play off round 21 August 2014 and 28 August 2014
We will start in the Third qualifying round 31 July 2014 and 7 August 2014

We'd have to play 19 games to win the thing!

9 home games with 25,000+ attendances and tv revenue

19 thursdays there's a Spurs match to watch

19 games for the new manager to get to experiment and know his squad, and which to get the side to play to his system and gel

And many many weeks in which the new manager doesn't have the full week's training to implement his proper system in place ;)

In all fairness we would have very much the same problem if we had finished 4th and qualified for the CL. Except it would be a possible (although very unlikely) 15 matches as opposed to a possible 19

19 games to fit in between more important fixtures.

19 games in which our players will pick up injuries.

19 games that make it a whole lot harder to get into the CL.

19 games that will lead to another wasted season.

So why do you want to be in the CL? Isn't that an inconvenience and distraction from the league too?

Europe is the reward. Otherwise it's like a finger pointing to the sky. Don't concentrate on the finger or you'll miss all the heavenly glory.

And the financial returns of EL enable you to keep 4-5 more senior players in your squad, which equip you for competing in it. It also equips you for challenging for the title and being able to compete in the CL should you get there.

I'll predict now that Liverpool are going to get absolutely hammered in the CL and league next season, because they haven't had a bridging period in the EL, learning to rotate play two big games a week.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

All down the Sunday now then.

We need a point, or need United to drop one. I'm sadly not that confident about either.

We dont get a point on Sunday I will be more f#cked off than I was on Saturday, and thats even if United dont win

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Looking at how TS has us setup, I'm confident of us being outplayed by Villa and losing by 1 or 2 goals. Then again, I think Southampton will see off UTD.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Don't be wet guys our home form against teams below us in the table has been good under TS, Villa's away form is terrible - yet some of you struggle to see us get a point?

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Villa are better away than at home. They like to sit deep and counter. Let them have the ball and they wouldn't know what to do.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

England will NOT be awarded one of the 3 Fair Play spots.

They will go to Finland, Sweden and Norway. The 3 clubs will be MYPA, Brommapojkarna and Tromsø.

Brommapojkarna has confirmed this on their website.
