ENIC

Yeah sorry, the leeds/pompey one. A couple of decent signings is going to send us tumbling down the leagues apparently

agreed.

wasnt seth johnson on like 80k or something.. i believe he had a clause that said if he played a certain amount of games they had to pay a further 5m too, so they never played him

He is having to sell all these players to save up for the compensation clause in Poch's contract. Doesn't give another manager the tools to finsih in the top 4 so will sack him.

Poch is better manager than AVB in my opinion. He improved Southampton with an inferior squad. I really believe he will do well with us. Levy indicated how he sees Poch having given him a 5 year contract.

It's not a couple of decent signings though, is it?

It's a couple every season. That's what levy gets bashed about.

Is that all you think it would take? What is to stop the clubs above us pricing us out of those couple of decent signings, if they thought that they would make us a threat?

A question for Rossi and Mumorn.

If all we need is a couple of decent signings, which couple of players should we have signed this window and how much would they have cost us in transfer fees and wages?

We don't buy anybody YOU want and it's Levy's fault, has anyone thought that Poch may well have said we don't need anyone and HE's happy with the squad HE has.

footballs changed, you can't be successful and prudent in the PL anymore, if you want to remain relevant you need to spend like a labour chancellor

even with the extra money a bigger stadium will bring in it won't be enough to compete with city/Chelsea/united

Was Sherwood sacked for not getting top 4? No

Was AVB sacked for not getting top 4? No

Was Redknapp sacked for not getting top 4? No

Was Ramos sacked for not getting top 4? No

Was Jol sacked for not getting top 4? Debatable, but it was mostly because we were regressing and the wheels were about to come off considering all the players he had fallen out with and his complete lack of tactical awareness.

Was Hoddle sacked for not getting top 4? No

Was Graham sacked for not getting top 4? No

Eriksen's passing is not too shabby, but agree in terms of Dembele, Capoue Paulinho. You can blame a certain mr Villas boas on his preference for big, tall physical midfielders.

Eriksen doesnt play as a CM in Poch's system - he plays in the 3 of the 4-2-3-1. The four senior CMs (the three you mention plus the new frenchie) arent natural passers, which leaves us relying on Bentaleb.....

As I see it mate the stadium is everything. We are following a similar business model to Arsenal to achieve it, I.e several years of relative austerity to finance it. To be fair to Levy he has squeezed money out of every commercial deal spurs have been involved in both on and off the field. He probably expected us to get more than 1 run in the Champions League and has been extraordinarily unlucky in that respect. I don't see this as concern about us "doing a Leeds or a Portsmouth" but rather sensible prioritising in terms of future revenue based on our recent PL finishes and us not being a champions league regular. I would add we are intending to develop a stadium in London without the revenue streams that Arsenal had when they built theirs. Why would we be any different from them in terms of our transfer spend?

Unless something extraordinary happens in the next 90 minutes, this window cements our place in 6th or 7th place.

Good luck Poch.

A new stadium would put us on equal footing with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Whether City and Chelsea manage to grow their income to match their current spending remains to be seen.

We wouldn't be able to do that without falling foul of FFP

Was Sherwood sacked for not getting top 4? He couldn't even spell top 4

Was AVB sacked for not getting top 4? YES

Was Redknapp sacked for not getting top 4? No he was sacked for not getting top 3

Was Ramos sacked for not getting top 4? He was sacked because he got ****ed off and deliberately got the sack

Was Jol sacked for not getting top 4? Yes

Was Hoddle sacked for not getting top 4? Yes

Was Graham sacked for not getting top 4? He was sacked for being a gooner, but at least he'd of fined Chadli 2 weeks wages for that ****ing hat

corrected

And how would we finance this spending anyway without the additional revenue of a bigger stadium. In a way we are in a catch 22 the financially doped clubs have distorted the whole competition.

FFP is a knife at a gun fight, a couple of clever lawyers on your books and spend what you like, it's also (currently) not relevant if you are not in European competition

my wish is for us to become financially doped as well

He gets bashed for not addressing the needs of the squad and Manager.
We don't want to see Falcao on £300k a week but we would like a decent striker to cover deficiencies, even someone short term who can finish e.g. Huntelaar or Perhaps a longer term player with potential to increase in value eg Bony. If Poch wanted Rodriguez and Schneiderlin, why didn't we do the deals early before Saints sold to Liverpool, it was always going to be harder to buy once they had sold top players.
Levy's record suggests it is about balancing the books.
He only buys if he thinks we are desperate, usually after selling our Crown Jewels.
He could invest £30m, take £10m for Enic from TV revenue and show a net spend. But I bet we are about £5-7m down after tonight.
Not really going to make a dent in the Race for CL is it?
