Daniel Levy - Chairman

We appointed Nuno out of desperation rather than thinking he was the long term answer so there's not really a point in making a comparison between him and ETH in that manner.

And is why the comments about making the mistake with Nuno, which it clearly was BUT also bemoaning how long its taking does not add up to me because if anything we want to get those appointments right not get them done now because people are naturally impatient

No, Levy appointed Nuno after interviewing Erik Ten Hag and deciding that he was not up to the task.

Yes that is the order of events but that doesn't mean he thought Nuno was a better long term manager than him, he appointed Nuno out of desperation at the last possible moment to essentially act as a stop gap

I think people would be a lot more understanding and patient had the long wait led to a top coach and not Nuno Espirito Santo. I fully agree it’s more important to get it right, so taking time is much better than rushing it and getting it wrong. The problem is we took ages and we still got it wrong lol. Literally the worst of both worlds. All that said, I still think people didn’t get on NES’s back until the United game when he subbed Moura. Those were the first grumblings and discontent I noticed personally.

I’m fairly relaxed about the fact that we don’t currently have a manager. I actually agree with people who argue that the season is still not ongoing. I’m relaxed provided it doesn’t take as long as it did 2 years ago. I’m also quite ambivalent as I almost don’t care who they appoint as I don’t trust Levy to get it right. He’s got a big job on his hands this summer appointing a new DOF and a manager who can unite the club. I must say I do find it quite comical the lengths people go to defend ENIC these days. It’s been said many times that if Levy had hired Levy then Levy would have fired Levy many years and many bad decisions ago. It’s been nothing short of farcical the last few years. I can still appreciate the job he has done as a whole during his tenure but it does make me question just what exactly he has to do and how far the club need to slide down the table before people start to ask more serious questions. It comes across that some on here have an almost unshakable belief in him and nothing will ever change their minds. Any constructive criticism is dismissed as negative or ITK. You even had a guy who worked under Poch and has an intimate knowledge of the club who appeared on Talksport fairly recently. Came across very reasonable and didn’t appear to have an axe to grind. But as usual his insight was dismissed even though he had an intimate knowledge of the club and how we operate.

Must say I do also find it rich that we mock Brendan Rodgers when he has managed to win an FA cup in recent times, something we haven’t done in over 30 years. Wouldn’t be my first choice and I understand completely why people don’t like him as a person but I’d take him over Ryan fecking Mason any day of the week.

Yeh I agree with that.

Except the last bit because I am not at the stage of Mason being a candidate to make Rodgers seem good hahaha. But in all seriousness I think there are likely alot of good managers out there that someone or no one has considered, like I said yesterday the Brighton gaffa is everyones hot favourite but a year ago was being plucked from relative obscurity. As long its not some plonker that fella Leeds got from the MLS I am pretty relaxed

Forgive me, I fail to see the logic in your reasoning. Why retain Nuno as a stop gap when Ten Hag was available as a long term appointment?

Because as you said we decided ETH wasn't the one - why would we go back.to someone we had supposedly ruled out?

Because Paratici still thought he could convince Conte. Nuno was so obviously just a cheap stop gap until the one we wanted agreed.

If you employ Ten Haag in that situation when you’re still pining for Conte then it’s a lot more difficult and expensive to change as he’d have demanded a longer and bigger contract than Nuno did, plus the Ajax compo!

i wanted Ten Haag when we got Nuno by the way, but it became clear when we appointed Conte how things must have played out that summer. Painting it as Nuno vs Ten Haag is totally disingenuous.

Had a funny day ... I am an engineer and had to go on site for a project so I asked the boss to get me some safety boots in size 11, he turned around and said that he would "buy me some size 6 slippers that i should be grateful for and should do the job" ... we all laughed but immediately I thought of Daniel levy

I get that mate. But Ten Hag would have been a better fit than Conte. So for me it's still a decision that leaves me scratching my head. Whatever the reasoning behind appointing NES.

maybe, Conte got us top 4 last season with a couple of tweaks

look what ETH has had to spend to get United top 4

Nuno gets a lot of unfair stick imo, his CV had a lot more on it than Poch’s did when we hired him

ETH is a building manager though more suited to the way we build squads. Conte was successful last season but it appears that the success was built on straw rather than firm foundation. The relationship ended as we expected it to, only sooner. I would trade last season's top 4 for a manager who was building towards sustainable success. Instead we are now in a mess.

Agreed on Nuno btw.

easier to have sustainable success with pockets as deep as United's

ETH has done a good job at United*, but its a different job

*after a dodgy start

Is eth a building manager? He was in charge of ajax. What did he build?

That applies to every type manager surely? Chances are they will have more success at a club with deeper pockets. It's just that the kind of manager who patiently builds a team seems to suit our club philosophy better than the "instant success" type. Ten Hag was my choice to replace Poch.

Look I would tend to agree with you BUT I'm not sure many (any) are writing this last May.

Hindsight is wonderful.
