I'm wondering how our talented AM kids Donley/Devine/Moore/Bergvall will find a way into the team.
Even if they have a great loan for a year, where would they come into this system, playing as we do (2 wide forwards and a striker) they don't really fit.
They can try to do the Maddison #10 role, but would we trust them in this key role, could they oust him?
They probably won't be trusted in #8 b2b roles.
They aren't wingers who keep width and fire it across.
If we bring in Eze and Gallagher it would make their chances of finding a place in the team even lower.

I quite liked it when we had a false 9 because the extra midfielder can be one of these types, just another clever forward darting in and out but not expected to be a striker or wide forward or THE MAN.

£68m for eze according to reports. That must be half our transfer budget or possibly more.

With devine, maddison, donely, kulu. Is it the best use of our resources?

Comes down to whether you believe Ange will play Donely (Devine isn't ready IMO). Madders will miss at least a third of the season IMO, and Deki has shown inconsistency...for me, if we can get this deal done it'd be very important.

That's £120m on two players who wouldnt be first choice (Eze competition for Maddison), Gallagher backup for Sarr and Bentancur).

We just can't do that when we need a starting CF and DM, plus probably 3 new backup defenders.

Wharton would have been great but we seemed to actually pivot to Bergvall, albeit for a different midfield role. So who knows how that will turn out long term (see Willian and Eriksen)

It depends on how you view a DM in Ange's system. I think he has shown an inclination to persevere with Bentancur there sometimes, and I could see him deploying Gallagher similarly. The specialist upgrades on Biss are huge. Both Eze and Gallagher can play different positions. Who'd be a DoF LOL...

Definitely agree on the need for an option for Maddison. Was subbed quite regularly when he did play, even when in form. Seems like two games a week will be a real stretch for him, and then as you say injuries.

Eze for me would be great because he can play there and wide. And he's really good.

Kulusevski is not a great fit for that role imo. Good when there's a transitional game with space in those areas, but when it gets congested in the centre it's not really suited to him imo.

Can't see us going for both Eze and Gallagher. Too much money, to much other businesses we need to do.

The DM market is really difficult, particularly for the kind of profile we want.

I know there have been solid reports that it's one of the positions we'd want to prioritise. But I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up sticking with Bissouma and Bentancur as well as perhaps integrating Hall a bit.

Imo that's the scenario where Gallagher would make more sense. Opens up more game time for the 8 position and Gallagher is versatile enough to also do a good job in other positions.

If we sign a quality DM Gallagher makes less sense to me.

If Donley stays with the plan to give him some game time it will probably be on the left.

Bergvall we'll have to see how he steps up, if he's not loaned out. If he makes the step up well I think he can play both as the 8 and as the 10 so should be able to get some game time.

I'm guessing Donley and Devine will get loans. Partly for the reasons you say, difficult to see them getting much game time. Partly because I'm not sure they're ready for that step up to the level we're at.

And that’s he issue with trying to future proof everything
We need something today whilst creating for tomorrow

With Bergvall, maybe Gallager over Eze is more of a priority. That is if PEH leaves, which he must. So many moving parts, it must be hard to plan.

Moore can't be loaned (too young). So he'd be given time on the left if anyone, no?

Agree with all of this...and sadly I still don't believe we'll sign either!

Real difficult puzzle. Made harder by home grown and club trained issues. Bergvall for example would have to be registered on the A list for Europe I believe. Under 21, but not been here for two years (if I understand the rules correctly).

Why would you? Next year he could add an extra £10m to his bank account if he holds fire and stays at chelsea for one more season. Who in their right mind wouldn't do this?

Only way he'll move is if the chavs play hardball and tell him he's out the squad. Move or play in the reserves. And the way they are run, that is unlikely.

I felt vindicated when I saw Gallagher come on for England. Loads of energy, dashing around, getting stuck in but ... not the class to really change things

I do not want and don't see the appeal in him honestly. Runs around a lot, gets stuck in but isn't a DM nor is he an AM. He's an 8 and not an especially technically proficient one and we are reasonably stocked there. So I really don't see what desire is. I do wonder if it's another HG influenced interest because otherwise I'm a bit baffled.
