Champions League 22/23 - Round of 16: AC Milan

I hope we get PSG, would love for my son to be able to go and watch Messi live before he retires.

Last one was a joke.

Saw us at the camp nou, messi was on the bench. The stadium started calling meeessi, i did too. It was haunting. (I was in the barca bit, so not sure spurs fans heard it proper, as they were in a plastic box). He came on. We got the draw. But even if not, wtf is the point of being in the champions league if you don't play the best?

I have been to see a game there and Messi was on the bench . Half time it was 1-1 and the crowd were doing the same thing . They decided he was coming on basically. He changed the game. Scored 1 and got an assist.

He was immense against us at Wembley glad I’ve seen him play a couple times.

Don’t fancy playing them just now but that’s what it’s all about . Seeing and playing best players and teams in Europe

I was there
They got a lucky ish goal when KWP stumbled and dembele scored
We then had a real go at them
We was waiting for the inter score IIRC to come through and we was behind a plastic screen as you say
Awful stadium, just big… reminds me of old Trafford in the fact it has a reputation but doesn’t actually meet that expectation when your there

Messi at Wembley was outstanding. I remember him standing still and all the other players running which gave him loads of space… he then ran at gentle Ben who didn’t know what to do :( :(

Was strange to see . The two units were moving one way and he’d go the other or just stand still . Then off he goes and he’s hurting you. He was so good that night.

I’ve seen Ronaldo play on 7/8 occasions and he’s quality but Messi is just different class.

Messi is the better football
Ronaldo is the more effective player
Both are truly exceptional

I'm not sure I've ever seen so many surprise results -- at least, surprises based on the traditional "big" teams getting knocked out.

Group A - Napoli top, Ajax out

Group B - Porto top and Bruges through! While Leverkusen usually don't make it to the knockouts, who'd have bet on Atletico finishing bottom?

Group C - Group of death, so would have called either Inter or Barca getting knocked out anyway.

Group D - Well, that was a struggle. Really could have been anyone in the end.

Group E / F / G - No surprises in any of these.

Group H - Benfica got lucky to top the group over PSG, but Juve were awful.

Is it the compressed pre-WC schedule levelling the playing field?

Regarding the next round, well, we've got a puncher's chance against any of them once Richi, Kulu and Romero are fit again. Even PSG. My head wants Bruges, as arguably the easiest tie, but I'd fancy either of the Milan sides as a glamour tie that we've got a decent chance of winning.

I think its a free hit from here. We've met expectations

Its very, very debatable whehter we're one of the top 16 teams in Europe. Certainly not in the top 8

Last 16 brings almost €10m more for qualifying + coeff points.

If we lose in the last 16, it probably helps our league campaign so win:win

Therefore I dont really care who we get

Yea this is where I am with it as well.

long old time till Feb though and a transfer window in between so we could be a different proposition by then, but as of now it’s unlikely we’d beat many of the teams still in it.
