Champions League 2016/17 - Group E: CSKA Moscow, Bayer Leverkusen, Monaco

So from the point of view of possibly moving up to pot 2 in the CL draw, are we supporting Liverpool tonight?
If Sevilla win then, in order to be in Pot 2, we'd need all three of Emirates Marketing Project, Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk to fail to progress past the CL play-offs. If Liverpool win we'd "only" need two of those three teams to get knocked out. In that respect a Liverpool win would be better for us, but I think there are more significant negative factors to a Liverpool win and we would probably still end up in Pot 3 anyway, so I will be supporting Sevilla.

Interesting. What are you referring to here - apart from the annoying Scouse/Klopp-fest that would ensue?
Do you mean competition for transfer targets?

Smaller share of the money too right? Doesn't each country get £x which gets split between each entrant?

In addition to everything else, I'd have to suffer THIS when the Super Cup final comes to town in August:

Does anyone know whether sides pick up more coeeficent points when they play in the Champions League as opposed to playing in the Europa?

I'm assuming that would be the case so I guess having 5 English sides in the CL would help the coefficient next season much like it did for La Liga when they had it happen.

Still want Liverpool to lose though. We have enough teams who might compete for the pool of players we can attract as it is.

I just want liverpool to lose, at every opportunity

I agree - but we know it does not work like that.

Tonight will be close.
Even worse, Klopp is getting them looking better and better.
Im begrudgingly having to admit they are improving very quickly.

It's the same points for the wins and draws, but the CL gives extra points for qualifying for the group phase, knockout phase, etc.

I want Sevilla to win tonight purely to keep Liverpool in the Europa for next season and less attractive in the transfer market
Unfortunately, they won't be in the Europa league next season if they lose: they finished 8th.

It's a bit of a conundrum: if they win they have Europe to contend with next season, adding more games to their fixture list. But it also allows them to attract better talent, possibly the same talent we would be going after, given our styles are similar. On the other hand, if they lose, we get the satisfaction of them falling short, but it also clears their schedule allowing them more rest and more time for Klopp to mold them into a proper team, and improves their chances of finishing high in the table.

Winning can become a habit.... epecially when it comes to winning trophies. I don't want to see Liverpool picking up this habit.
