Bet we would;)

no because the Ings transfer went to tribunal....He chose Liverpool, long long ago, and just waited for the end of the season when he was free to move and the fee to be set by the tribunal....Spurs never had a sniff

its a chain......West Brom are waiting for Spurs, the clubs West Brom are wanting to buy from are waiting for West Brom, there are clubs waiting for the clubs waiting for West Brom and so on.............

how can they all have their own deals in place by the final few hours of the window.....its simply ridiculous

Why, it's just like buying a house in a chain. Quite common on the last days of the window I would have thought, especially if the deal spirals downwards player quality wise to lower leagues.

last days maybe but not the last hours;)

If we had offered a silly £50m for Ings. Ings and Burnley would have said fudge the tribunal and both trousered a nice amount.

they can have fee's agreed, terms done with the player, paperwork filled in and ready to fax to jim white

do you think Peace would have treated any other manager better? would he have sold berahino to Man U for less?

I don't think he would. I think this was his chance of getting a huge transfer fee. He was desperate for a high offer to come in and an auction scenario to pan out hence why going public. It didn't happen and he wasn't happy. That's all my take on it.

my memory is terrible - but I remember Berbatov standing Gills office sometime back at 11pm and we signed a replacement player of stunning quality called Rasiak Bent or something along those lines

and the pro Levy camp are out in full force judging by this post at least ;)

Ha! You say it's pro-Levy, I think it is just the way it is. No harm no foul, all I am trying to do is put forward another interpretation of the events. It makes no rational sense that Levy would intentionally be the way that people are assuming, yet for some reason people choose to believe it. I find it bizarre!

two massive egos clashed, no-one won

I don't think Levy has a massive ego. He doesn't care what people think of him, he lets others do the talking and is prepared to listen and change his ways i.e. the hiring of redknapp and the removal of DoF even if that was his preferred method of working.

I think that we did offer over the odds

So what do you call Sunderland's for Kaboul? And Palace's for Connor?

If you want an EPL player, you pay over the odds. That is a fact of life and no amount of false modesty can change that fact!

Levy knew that; if he does not want to pay over the odds, he should have gone to the continent; but after burning his fingers with Soldado, Lamela et al, he was too scared to go down that route....

So the assumption here is that Sunderland overpaid for Kaboul and that Palace overpaid for Connor. I find that interesting as a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

And you're right, Levy does know how much other players have gone for and the payment structures associated with them. So again, I ask, what rational reason would he have for completely low-balling or offering a payment structure that is unsuitable or out of kilter with the market? Does he just like wasting his own time? Does he just like the drama? Or maybe he is just hell bent on being a disaster. Why didn't he do the same with Son, N'Jie, Lamela, Soldado, Alderweireld, Trippier, and all of the other signings that he has made not on the last day of the transfer window?

Only thing peace done wrong for wba was not try to bend levy over with a counter offer late in the day, 28m plus fazio plus Townsend on loan for a year (with option to buy for £X) type of thing.

And the release that to the press.

Who's to say he didn't do the first thing as we don't release things to the press. He just didn't want to do a deal.

It was Frazer Campbell but that ultimately was one of the reasons for 2 points in 8 game (TM Harry reddknapp) maybe peace was on to something.
