Apple TV

er my macbook is a 2008 model. It aint even a pro.

fudgein hell.
Yeah, you're buggered then, no sound over the HDMI cable. You'll still get the sound coming out of the speakers on the MacBook... and like Tommy says, you can connect to some external speakers through the headphone socket (or to the TV's line-in like Arcy says).

Is the line in a headphone type socket or a red and white phono socket?

This is my laptop.

I think we should call an emergency COBRA meeting

Am I right in thinking that the line-in might only works on certain inputs? I'm pretty sure that the line-in on one of our tellys only worked when the VGA input was selected.

Make and model of television please.

Sony KDL40CX523 40 inch LCD TV with Freeview HD

I think Arcey boy tried to steal your thunder and trying to take credit for your work Boonie. I suggest fighting to resolve this battle

your TV accepts line level in via left and right Phono (RCA) connections and the mac will be outputting via 3.5mm audio jack. You need a 3.5mm jack - 2 phono For the audio as well as all the other brick to convert the video, you also need to see if you can asign the audio in to the HDMI input (unlikely) as usually these audio ins on TV are only for use on the component input.

Just checked, you cant go analogue in for audio into any of the HDMI sockets. So in answer to the original qustion regarding watching TV and porn etc from the MAcbook I would have to say no.

LOL Thats the pic I used. AV 2 is the only one with a separate audio in, they dont tend to have audio inputs for HDMI

If you're connecting audio directly to your TV, you're doing it wrong

TV speakers are like Apple headphones. Absolute bag of brick.

A home cinema is a must
