Antonin Kinsky

I'm so glad we waited until January to do this. Who could have possibly seen the circumstances of our number 1 getting injured, making us have to play an aging veteran who doesn’t suit our style of play, who we gave a new contract to. Absolutely nobody could have predicted that, completely impossible!

Bit odd that Ange categorically said we weren't going to sign another keeper 🤔 plus this coming a day after Austin started and actually looked pretty composed / capable at this level.

All that said, none of that nonsense is this kids fault and he looks good on the youtube, it's a step forward for the readiness of our squad and you cannot argue with progress. Ahoj Kinsky (I'm assuming he is Czech)!
I think you are saying - it’s hard to tell amongst your counter arguments and parenthesis within your sentences- that we should stick with Austin from now on?

Is that correct?

Not quite! I'm glad we've got what looks like a viable back up. I'd have much rathered we made this move in the summer, but it's asking a bit much to hope that we have all of the right parts of the puzzle at the right team. Who cares about this season, we've always got next season right?

The Austin thing is just a note that maybe it won't feel great for him, the reward for doing well (potm etc) is to be immediately shunted down the pecking order. It's no big deal either way really, I genuinely am happy with the signing. By my standards I've been fairly upbeat given the absolutely atrocious results! It's possibly an apathy / detachment / acknowledgement of the futility of hope or moaning and there's more positive things I can invest my energy in (whilst still having the odd moan here and there).

The negotiations must have started when Forster was fit - i presume in Q4 2024. I have not read the details

Seeing the deal was done so quickly now, this might have been one we weren't able to do in the summer, and Austin and Whiteman were kept because of that.
Try looking at things from different angles, instead of only choosing the negative one!

I think he only broke through this season due to injury to their number one. Thought I read that somewhere
He was out on loan in the Czech top division last season.
If the injury story is true, could be another reason they wouldn't have entertained a summer 2024 deal.
Ange did talk about deals we tried to get done in the summer and didn't.

And we were all bemused a Forster upgrade wasn't one of them. So the risk reward calculation was "hope Vic doesn't get injured for six months" or "buy someone else"- it's just crappy luck

Thinking out loud - if he plays this season....

..... have we ever had four different GKs in a season?! I can a few three GK seasons I think from the Fulop and Cerny days, and I think one in the 90s too, back when a third GK playing was really odd and felt like it was just some bloke from the street!

That's absolutely a reasonable assumption, you can't get it all done in one window.

But I will stress once again, I'm not that miserable about it all. I'm at peace with it and realise that it's sort of the same thing every season possibly getting progressively worse. But do you want to be happy, or right etc etc

It's just odd on the Ange front (he doesn't mind being wrong in press conferences I guess and it's tricky either way) and the Austin one, but we are where we are, improving the squad 👌

Sounds like he’ll be a massive upgrade on Forster when we’re trying to lure in opposition high press by passing it around our area and those Ederson style long passes should take some of the quarterback workload off Romero.

“He doesn't care which foot he uses to kick the ball. I asked him in training which one he prefers, but he said it doesn't matter. In short, he kicks with both equally," Rostislav Horacek, the scout who discovered Kinsky as an 18-year-old, said back in October when describing the goalkeeper’s ability with the ball at his feet. "His style of play is such that he's straight away preventing himself from coming under pressure."

I was thinking how strange it was that nobody has posted his first interview on this thread.
But maybe it is only available to those mugs who forked out £40 for SpursPLAY i.e. me. At least I get to watch the kids vs Grimsby on Tuesday though.

Anyway, here it is on YT. Absolutely stellar English skills, even better than Milo's Czech

I think Ange is a classic example of why you shouldn't get wrapped up in everything a manager says in the media - he's deliberately coy or withheld information on various occasions.

I find this keeper situation really intriguing, especially with him being a non HG player taking another spot (both our keepers non HG). This could be really good timing with Vicario still out for a while that he could prove himself to be already capable of being no.1 this season and Vicario going in the summer. I reckon Spurs would at least be open to it if he is commanding of his area (whilst of course being a decent shot stopper). Maybe with Austin being bumped up to no.2 if this guy does the business. Just a thought...

This guy is younger than Austin so I'm presuming that means we don't really rate Austin?
Could well be right. Really pleased with his performance yesterday and looked promising, but I wouldn't judge too much in isolation. Remember Tanganga looking great and being MOTM against Liverpool on debut. He is now plying his trade at Millwall.....

You're assuming ange is telling the truth in press conferences, why would he?
Why tip everyone off to your business.

Assume that Postecoglou rates first team experience as being more important than age, judging by how Gray and Bergvall have been given far more minutes than Lankshear and Dorrington despite being a year younger.
There is a difference between the former pair and the latter two. Gray and Bergvall have both got a lot of first team minutes relative to their ages at the clubs they played for before joining us. To an extent they were already proven, someone gave them a chance and they took it.

Lankshear and Dorrington are both highly rated by the fans who have watched them in youth football but neither are actually proven and there is a lot of hope involved in the rating they've been getting from the fans. Fans are not the best judge of youth players if we are honest, they tend to get a tad overrated when they are playing underage football.

We have to accept that Ange having looked at them in training over a elongated period doesn't think either of Lankshear or Dorrington are ready to play regularly for us. There is of course the chance they never will be.
