Which part of his career post Spurs has convinced you that he is able to come back and do better with a worse squad, in arguably a tougher league?

It seems very sentimental and I'm not saying it wouldn't work but in every job* it's been a disaster since it became a disaster at Spurs and he got the boot.

*I don't know how he's actually doing with the USA national team but respectfully I dgaf how he does against Panama and American Samoa
I'm glad you said it. He was quite lucky with the squad he had, and the premiership was not so competitive when he managed us. Since he left us he hasn't really done very well, and I would like to remember him fondly. I very much hope he doesn't return. I would love to see Ange gone today, and perhaps someone like Hoddle to take the reigns until we find a permanent manager. I am now guessing that Ange will be with us until the end of the season, we will get knocked out of the Europa cup, and we will just avoid relegation. Meanwhile he will take no responsibility for the poor tactics and lack of effort from the players, it's just down to the injuries, which by the way he is partly to blame for.

Record since "mid November" - starting with Ipswich.
Excluding the quality of the opposition because I'm examining Ange's position that the injuries and exhaustion are the issue

W 8
D 5
L 10

You know what, maybe it's actually not as bad as it few.

That said, what are our expectations?
Fully fit, I'd say that becomes
W 13
D 3
L 7
At best. The pre injury form suggests something like that. I'm not convinced 7 defeats from 23 is good enough.

Postecoglou isn't in the 'potential' category of manager - he's been a manager for longer than both Mourinho and Conte (one of his Aussie teams played off against Fergies United in the first World Club Championship to give an idea of how long that is...)

But I mean potential in terms of he hadn’t managed in a major league, so no one really knew what he would be like and whether he could manage in a league as competitive as the Premier league is. So he had potential in that there was promise there but unfortunately we haven’t seen any realised potential to the level that has been required, at least in my opinion we haven’t.

Still Ange in. Finally a week between a couple of games. Hopefully some more players returning from injuries and a squad that isn't fully fatigued.

Assuming we don't just get a ton of new/recurring injuries a chance for Ange to show what he can do with this team over the coming weeks and months.

Pressure is on him for sure though. Not a lot of credit left in the bank (rightly or wrongly so). Need some performances and results going forward when the squad is getting there again.

Our only hope to win a Europa or we have to wait atleast another season with no European football. I really want someone in now as that Europa league win is definitely doable with this current squad.

Not sure it will be weeks though. You've got to get a clutch of players from conditioning inside to training ground to bench to 1st team to top form. Feels like a month long process at least.

Where we might get some respite is the freshness of the current players though. Guys like Kulu, Porro, Sonny and Gray spring to mind. Mentally, it must feel great not having to get their heads around another game until match prep starts at the end of the week. Physically, it's so obvious these 14 or 15 "fit" players can only benefit from not playing. I can imagine when it happens for the 2nd week in a row, it will feel like heaven.

I think Ange will be maintained unless we get a thumping or two, or we prematurely fall out of the EL. I've stopped caring whether I'm in or out. I'm just trying to back the club in whatever decisions they are making. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

It doesn't matter what players we have back if his tactics resemble that of playground football. Even with the injuries we have lost game after game against weaker sides.

We could win the Europa league whilst watching the flying pigs. It isn't going to happen

That press conference yesterday was an attempt at a massive piece of deflection. Is anyone really criticising the players? Not really - the focus is on the ridiculous 'tactics', the evident lack of motivation provided, and the inability to manage a squad.

I heard him on the radio this morning and had to turn it off. It's pitiful now. I'm completely sick of his gaslighting.

Would have to be a "now" manager though. Like a David Moyes sort that comes in and goes back to basics

For context our form in all competitions up to and including Ipswich this season was:
W 11
D 2
L 7

We finished 4th, two points off the top team despite our personnel problems these past few months. Certainly not saying we will win it, but we have a chance and the fact this is the only thing for us to focus on (of course need to ensure we rack a few more points up in the league too) rather than other seasons where there has been a big push towards finishing as high up as possible in the league could work in our favour too....

Personally I think just the one week off we have now will help a bit. Won't fully refresh players who are fatigued, have niggles, whatever. But I think it will help a bit. Some returning players needing a bit of time will probably be the case, but at least players that can take half an hour here and there so the fatigue isn't just worsened and perhaps even bettered.

But yes, to get something resembling a mostly fit mostly match fit squad with some injuries probably takes a month-ish.

We also have some rather key players with unknown return dates as far as I know. The time that takes probably also matters quite a bit.

The only thing this manager will get us relegated

What gives you any faith still, when its 17 months now that we've been awful?

Some decent performances against Arsenal and Liverpool in Sept 23 is credit in the bank that exhausted about a year ago

It doesn't matter what players we have available, the manager has no idea how to use them or motivate them. Give him a couple of years and he could get Liverpool relegated

That chance diminishes greatly if Ange is the manager though. His tactics and coaching are being shown up more and more as the weeks go on. We might look at our squad and thinks it's as good as any of those other teams that are left, but then we might look at the other team's coaches and think: uh-oh...

I'm not having a go at all, but the problem with playing the 'injuries' card for so long is that once you get into it, it's endless.

Let's ignore injuries that will change a player for ever, like Dragusin's or Betancur's. But once a player is back in training, it doesn't mean he is back to his best. It will take a few games, likely as many as four or five, depending on the time he's spent on the sidelines. So, again, if the results aren't up to par, we already know why. I might add that Postecoglou's style is particularly unforgiving for players returning from injury, but that's another matter.

What are the chances we get zero injuries in that time? Even if we only get a couple of those (only...), then it will be back to 'I never got the chance to play a settled side'. By that time, there will be only 10-ish games left to play and nothing to play for and by the same logic, he might be given another season, just in case his luck with injuries get better.

I understand the logic (even if I disagree) and I also understand that some spectacular results have bought him a lot of good faith and patience but, for me, an elite manager wouldn't have set us up the way we did at Everton and, if only for that reason, I wouldn't take another chance on him (but, then again, I don't think I've been asked for my opinion!).

We haven't been awful for 17 months imo. Sure, if you thought we were awful up until the injuries got real bad too that's fine. But we see that very differently.

For me we were inconsistent, at times excellent at times poor for quite while, then "awful" when we suffered one of the worst injury crisis I can remember.

For me the unanswered question remains can he sort out the inconsistency with a mostly fit squad (normal levels of injuries).

Our performances and results during this injury crisis doesn't answer that question. I want to see that question answered because when we've been on our game we've been really special. And if he can get the inconsistency thing sorted we'd be on to something really good.
