Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Awesome post.

All I would say on his tactics, is that he has given interviews before specifically addressing the point, that you need to be able to lure teams out to you. That even if an opposition defends very deep there are still spaces on the pitch we can use to our advantage. I have no concerns there.

Also, he got Academica playing a good type of football and getting results. Maybe it wasn't his 'ideal' in terms of a high line and constant pressing, because it's almost certain he didn't have the perfect players for that. But he did what he could with them, relative to what they were capable of, and I think he'd so the same for us.

i know man. i thought that was bankrupt at one point.

If Alex and Anelka arent in his plans, and then start causing trouble - what would you have him do?

sell them, loan them out, in the mean time keep them on the bench...take them aside and let them know hard work can get them on the team...... if they still persist being a nuisance? expedite the first two options....but in the mean time i would not be chastising them in front of their team mates who i need on side, in front of youth team members and in front of reserves. "Go to your room" is what it sounds like from what that gossip tweet was saying...but its the child talking to the man?!!

bad form.

would agree with skyfarer , in that time would give him the authority to establish the respect that would allow for that to be a norm and for it to mean something and carry weight

None of us know what mandate he was given at CFC and which of the upper-echelons at the club bottled it big-style when he went in as the executioner. My guess is he was told to be quick and to be ruthless, to make it VERY uncomfortable for certain players in the hope they'd be off ASAP. My guess is he thought he'd be supported from above, but when it came to the moment, he found himself standing in the middle of the room all by himself. What happened at CFC doesn't count for us, because quite simply, they are NOT us and we are NOT them (thank fudge!)...

incidentally, rumour has it that you could be right about thelack of support from the owners to execs. i dont think he had much REAL support.

Between windows your options are severely limited. Essentially it seems you are saying you would keep poison around the squad and on the bench?

I think it was a show of power. I dont see anything particularly wrong with it providing it was justified.

In a situation where you have a bad apple in the barrel the only option is to remove it before it spoils the whole batch.

That said, on a slightly wider "man management" point - I think he tried to show power a bit to much (I suspect because Roman told him in no uncertain terms he had it) and then found what power he had was hollow - at which point he was basically stuffed.

I do think he should have played a lot nicer with the players. Lampard, Cole and Drogba in particular. Getting those guys onside, playing them - using them to get early points on the board - to phase them out later on would have been sensible IMO, instead of trying to push them out straight away. THAT was a mistake IMO.

Telling Anelka to do one? Cant say I find any real fault with that

i dont disagree with any of his here , unfortunately i'm swayed by gossiping children right now.....stuff coming from a sexbot would seem plausible to me right now.

i'm nervous, put it that way. i am praying for AVB to be flexible and if not i am praying that we get HIS kind of players. unlike skyfarer i actullay like to empoy the highline but mainly cause i see it work for arsenal and barca. both teams are nightmarish to play against cause you never are allowed to settle and arsenal play alot of transition football..able to beat almost anyone on their day.

but i dont want AVB to be one dimensional...i am not sure what evidence we have to say that he ISNT one dimensinal. cause he adopt other tactics and formations?

i am nervous.

Nerves are natural.

In truth he is a manager no one really knows a great deal about. His last job went south spectacularly. There are reasons to be concerned.

However, on one hand he is here now - so we need to back him, and on the other we are a very different proposition to Chelsea (one where he can be more successful, IMO)

why? whats wrong with him?

Perhaps you could say Levy wanted a young manager willing to stay at the club for the long term, Pep never signed more than a 1 year contract as he doesn't believe in anything longer. Also that his style of football is less transferable than AVB's because we are simply not Barcelona and don't have the institutionalised football education that they do amongst many of their players. He might also have been asking for a massive contract. Also it would have created a massive pressure on him and the team - appointing Pep would make us seen by many as immediate title contenders when not much would have actually changed.

That's not to say I wouldn't have wanted him though!!

Nothings wrong with Pep.

He's better then the Russia job.

You've gotta respect him if he wants a new challenge on the international stage, he could get any available job he wanted based on his rep. If true it's a bold move...

He'd have to go to the Middle East to find a higher paying international job than Russia.

True, a new challenge would work. Though it would be a new challenge at any club that isn't Barcelona really.

He's been linked with pretty much every job that's been available, and will continue to be until he decides he's had enough time off. It's inevitable.

AVB about to arrive at WHL for the first time.
No press conference. He's coming to do a photo shoot with Spurs TV Online.
‏AVB just took pictures of the stadium on his Blackberry with his coaching team. Now doing an interview with Spurs TV in the Oak Room.
