American politics

I am Aspie (note - "am", not "have").
My initial reaction on seeing the photo was it's nothing.
When I saw the first one, I also thought it's nothing.

I've made similar gestures to friends (tap my heart and then raise my hand up, arm stretched out, to show love and wave goodbye). I've also done the occasional maneurism that I've immediately said "whoops, that's looked a bit Nazi" afterwards.

Autism, by it's nature, means a lack of social awareness. But, somewhat paradoxically, it also means a heightened awareness of social behaviour - because autistics spend our whole lives monitoring social norms and masking (it's fudging exhausting).

So that's brings me to the end of the first gesture. Musk will know and understand the social context within which he is present.
If he was excited or tired (both very plausible), it is perfectly reasonable for him to make that gesture as "I show you love" and forget the optics. It was also off centre etc and not definitely a Nazi style salute.

We then reach the second one. That IS exactly a Nazi style salute. But could still be put down to neurodiversity (Nd is a contextualisation for some "behavioural issues"; that is distinct from being an excuse. They are, however, close lines).

At this point I was still in two minds. I've watched it numerous times and come to differing conclusions.

We then move onto the extra context:

I.
His reply on X. He didn't distance himself from it. He didn't recognise it as an error and say so.
It may take a few days for him to realise that - I know it does for me sometimes.

II.
His history of being supportive of the likes of Tommy Robinson, and if I remember wasn't he positive about apartheid?

The full picture makes me think it was a Nazi salute.

Thank you for sharing this mate.
You have broken down in spectacular fashion why it was (IMO) absolutely intended to be what it was seen as.

Gotta be honest, I tried to find a way of giving him the autistic benefit of the doubt.
It is possible it was just stupid and naive - but I'm struggling to justify it

I honestly hate the guy but even putting that aside I keep asking myself why do it and with that aggression and grunt. Socially awkward I get, I know many who are, none have done that in situations relative to their own experiences. I also ask myself given his status and knowledge base, even if innocent, surely you know not to create such an issue with something that can look the way it looked? If I go on stage I am 99.9% I won't throw a shape that looks like a Nazi Salute, its not hard to achieve, I am just astonished

But that is a lot of people in presumably a small area to make management and control easier

I imagine that can be said for 90% of such facilities around the world. Treatment of those within is what is key.

That said, from reports last time around ICE and the borders etc - they don't have a very good track record.

Are there many facilities world wide that hold very large numbers of people? Genuine lack of awareness on my part.

Turkey, Asia and India off my head

LA has the largest in the US I think, been some great documentaries about it over the years, in great I mean interesting and informative not great to see so many in prison.

Prison is the Band-Aid solution for America, rather than deal with the issues at source and increase social reform, just stick people in the army or in jail.

And even with the biggest benefit of the doubt, he had the opportunity to back track on X afterwards - but didn't.

Ironically, it's probably being autistic that allowed him the lack of social awareness that led him to be honest with his gestures.

The Trump administration wants to build four detention centers each with 10,000 bed capacity. What will we call these camps which concentrate so many people together? Anyone?
Detention centers.
I don't think think for a second Trump would oversee anything more sinister.
He is America first.- get everyone else out, make people pay for using America.
He's hideous. He's not Hitler. I'm sure there are some others that are more extreme and the only concern is that someone convinces him that people waiting for deportation need to "repay the USA" with their labour.
If someone else did it, he would justify it. But I don't think he'll dictate it.

I see Ttump has announced a $500 billion dollar investment into AI development/infrastructure.
1 problem, the actual building of the facility they plan to use started a year ago. I think, because of the mention of infrastructure he's gonna give tax breaks/grants for this.

For anyone who isn't up to speed on the needed supplies of electric and cooling for "AI", Amazon bought a nuclear power plant 8-9 months ago.
Also I cant recall by who, but a decommissioned nuclear power plant was bought 3 months ish ago, New Jersey or New York, cant recall.

But yeah, I can foresee massive tax breaks and grants incoming.

Have you been introduced to Stephen Miller?

The Nazis didn't set out with the plan for genocide. It was all about making people illegal, unwanted, disposed, forcibly emigrated. This involved rounding up and housing in detention centres (Romani then Jews and other 'others') before the Final Solution started in 1941.

Trump isn't a Hitler but he is shaped by the last voice to whisper in his ear. I don't think Trump has this in mind but slopes become slippery very fast when you are playing populist and trying to control a mob that you have incited. He also has a lot of very extreme people (like Miller) around him and what happens post-Trump is, to me, all bets off at the moment.

Already trying to change the concept of personhood to conception to circumvent termination laws. Trying to change the constitution on US citizenship. 4 days in and there is a lot of declassifying of persons and leaving individuals and groups very vulnerable to the Presidential whim.
