American politics

The Nazis didn't set out with the plan for genocide. It was all about making people illegal, unwanted, disposed, forcibly emigrated. This involved rounding up and housing in detention centres (Romani then Jews and other 'others') before the Final Solution started in 1941.

Trump isn't a Hitler but he is shaped by the last voice to whisper in his ear. I don't think Trump has this in mind but slopes become slippery very fast when you are playing populist and trying to control a mob that you have incited. He also has a lot of very extreme people (like Miller) around him and what happens post-Trump is, to me, all bets off at the moment.

Already trying to change the concept of personhood to conception to circumvent termination laws. Trying to change the constitution on US citizenship. 4 days in and there is a lot of declassifying of persons and leaving individuals and groups very vulnerable to the Presidential whim.
Great (well, as great as it can be considering the context) post.

I do worry about the post Trump landscape too.
You can see Hitler's intentions in Mein Kampf - it was eradication. Trump isn't about irradication - he's about nationality and ego. Hitler was ideological at least.

We also have a lot more access to information now, so I can't see the detention centers being anything more than that. I'm sure they will be the most basic facilities possible though and have no concern for family structures etc.

Post Trump I suspect the US will look not dissimilar to Israel politically. Although Miller does make Bengiveer (six) and Smodric (sic) look like Mary Whitehouse

I don't think it will go that way, I can just see a pathway that could head that way if things align.

It is massively different world we live in now but also ...... if he does decide to invade Greenland, who would send armies to stop him? Panama? Canada? At what point do NATO and the USA's 'allies' have the man power or gumption to do anything? If the centres did become camps, who/what in 4 years or 8 years time would stand up and say no?

They were careful to reintroduce institutional racism, I mean DEI hire, stuff first in case Obama wanted a piece of the action.

Incredible, its not even hidden now. "I can spot a criminal migrant" I mean, thats just racism right there..........for so so many reason.

I think we are on the cusp of some really dark times where people on either side of the Atlantic are not even going to hide it anymore.

The confederacy lives on.

It's the easiest way to divide us.
Gets us looking in the wrong direction.

Benjamin Franklin:

“I confess that there are several parts of this Constitution which I do not at present approve, but I am not sure I shall never approve them. For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged by better information, or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which I once thought right, but found to be otherwise. It is therefore that, the older I grow, the more apt I am to doubt my own judgment, and to pay more respect to the judgment of others.”

“In these sentiments, Sir, I agree to this Constitution, with all its faults, if they are such; because I think a General Government necessary for us, and there is no form of government, but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered; and believe further, that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government.”
