Absolutely. Though I think the right is currently more effective at it. I also think there's more money in it on the right.I agree with your general point, but what about angry people being pushed to the left, are they not being manipulated as well?
Many motivations of course too, not just money. Attention, a form of celebrity etc.
I think the same with many forms of "influencers", not just political as well.

When you think there are grown ups who are devastated they gave a female character a lightsaber it's amazing, but actually terrifying when you realise their vote is worth just as much as yours. Watching you break things down to one of "best newcomer of the year" nominees is like watching Stephen Fry explaining Greek mythology to a potato.
I've believed some real bad things myself. Always appreciated in hindsight when people took the time to meet that with some patience, even though I've often taken longer to change my mind than I would have liked. But I've also appreciated having my views ridiculed, that too has value.
