Yves Bissouma

Anyone know if he had an injury or something yesterday?

Sarr for Bergvall was for me the rather obvious sub, Sarr wasn't good and was on a yellow. To take off Bissouma too and play with Bergvall, Maddison and Kulusevski was quite the statement from Ange unless Bissouma was feeling an injury.

a lot of complaining about Bissouma yesterday.

Throughout Summer, we all knew we desperately needed an improvement in the Number 6 role. Especially given the type of football we play.

People can tinkle and moan about Bissouma yesterday but if we dont learn lessons, then it's on the club and management hierarchy. Signing one first XI improvement over the summer wasn't good enough.

Bissouma lost the ball that then led to their second goal. I don't think Bissouma played that great yesterday. It didn't seem like he wanted the ball, not that Sarr was helping him. Only Bergvall seemed to want to receive the ball from our backline and try to turn with it. Bissouma and Sarr were all about the sideways/backwards passes, not really driving it. There were some exceptions where I think Sarr was given space to move the ball up without being closed down.

We really struggled to get the ball from our backline to our midfield/forwards, but that's been a problem for a long time now. We want to play out of the press but our midfielders never make themselves open to receive it. It's so painful to watch at times.

Bissouma is very comfortable under pressure, but lacks the vision and passing to go from having the ball under pressure to actually progress the ball unless one of his dribbles come off.

Sarr just isn't comfortable under pressure.

The combination of that and a CB that isn't comfortable under pressure and wide players that need to be fed the right kind of service causes real issues for us in these situations. Fixing one of those helps, fixing all of them is the solution.

Bergvall gives us a better option in that regard.

Our CM is really where we have to concetrate on IMO before next season. We do have good players in there but they are not consistant enough for a winning team. Banging my head against a brick wall but we really need a DM and more consistant from the likes of Biss,Sarr

Bayern/PSG have got 4/3 of them, surely they can lend us one? Number 14 on that list can walk into our team.

It'll be Gray. We just need to liberate him from CB

Ange was furious with how our midfield played in the first half. Way too passive, unable to progress, going backwards. Then being cut open. Then Biss caused the winning goal against us, so I'm not surprised Ange ripped it up.

Biss was definitely tired after Tamworth too.

Funnily enough I think missing out on 13 was a major error on our part - Onana is big and powerful and a menace from set pieces. We lack true leadership in there and he stands up to be counted too.

I'd love to coach Bissouma 😅 The talent is there. He just doesn't know how and when to apply it. His awareness is terrible. Yet technically, athletically, he has huge ability.

# 1 - he has to feel his way into games.

He is that type of player who needs to feel the ball and get into a groove. So he needs to do that early in a game and safely. Get his touch, and movement felling good. If its feeling off, he can play a more conservative game screening. But he should aspire to a more pivotal role in midfield dictating the game. He has the ability to demand the ball, turn, pass.

# 2 He needs someone to teach him how to be aware.

It sounds crazy, but simple pitch awareness is not something he's blessed with. And it leads to him making decisions that make him look bad as a player - when he's not. As he is moving around he needs to develop a global awareness of where players are located, and factor that in always. It is probably why Conte didn't play him much. If he has that awareness working in his subconscious, he plays a simple 1-2 with Spence last night and doesn't try to cut in field.

He's quick, powerful. Technical. Has instinctive skill. But he will never amount to much if he doesn't develop his brain and way he approaches games. He needs that to release his skill and physical prowess.

It's awful watching an attack fizzle out after one of our players drives the ball up the field, then lays it off to Bissouma, and then Bissouma passes it 3 feet sideways to Sarr. Sarr then gives it back to Bissouma. Hot potato football has got to stop.

Yep, Without Bentancur there's no calmness and creativity when progressing forward. Hopefully this is addressed in the Summer, As it doesn't look like it will be this window

Or we get Gray and Bergvall both in there regularly and see what they can do

I think Gray will move into midfield as soon as we have Van Der Ven back.

I've said previously that Samuele Ricci from Torino would be a good player for us to bring in. I don't think he would be mega expensive.

Another sensible option would be AO Tananka from Leeds. He is probably the most impressive player in the Championship this season.

I hope Gray is both ready for that role and seen as ready for that role.

Several of our midfielders should be feeling the pressure of both Gray and Bergvall right now imo. Sarr and Bissouma getting yanked off at half time in the NLD doesn't exactly decrease that pressure.
