Signing any player is a gamble, signing a youth player is going for a long shot. So much can effect a young players development, environment, location, friends, injuries, money, relationships and luck
That is true... but then you look at the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth and above all.... Chelscum.... their consistent hits with young players cannot be attributed to pure luck... We just sold one of our most a promising young midfielder for a measly 6 million; they sold theirs for fifty!!!!

They’ve missed just as much as they’ve hit on young players, but we only get to hear about the big money moves.

If we sell Bergvall for 50mil then many other clubs will be looking at that and saying exactly what you posted above.

Saying that, we have been paying the price for previous managers, Conte in particular, hollowing out our academy.

Is the r ight answer and i could not agree more. I have worked with many young players through the FA coaching sessions and there are far many more who never fill their potential then go on and become stars.

Sorry mate... not buying that... they made more than 250mill over the last three seasons.... not exactly "hit and miss" in my eyes...

My point was they have missed on young players as much as they have hit.

But you are correct they have raised a ton more than we have. When we were using our academy players as training cones, Chelsea were buying all the talented youth players and sending them out on loan to develop knowing they would sell them in the future to keep them PSR compliant.

We haven’t been good at much since the CL final, including developing youth talent or selling players in general. But thankfully that appears to be finally changing.

Sometimes I genuinely question if our scouting department just uses Football Manager for their data and just sign up any of the “wonderkids” they can.

Go position by position through this list picking out our players, and this list including Hyeok and Takai.

They have already been signed though.

Worth noting as well. The wonderland list will include players who’s upside is the lower leagues.

That’s how it works with young players. We see Brentford, Bournemouth & Brighton signing a kid we’ve not heard of and selling them for £75M a few seasons later. But for every one of those there are half a dozen that go out on loan or play in the under 21’s before being released or sold for a small fee.

Agreed - there is more to it then that, although people forget in our list we have an academy player who went to Bayern for over 100m and a left winger to madrid who went for 85m. The difference is however, Brentford, Bournemouth & Brighton can afford to play those players as the expectation and pressure is different. Here, whoever steps on the field has to perform from minute one. It means they get less chances which stunts their growth a little bit. We are also near the top of the food chain, meaning we are less likely to be looked at by chelsea/united etc whereas those clubs are a feeding ground and can pick their price. We sell because we want better/more, they dont want to sell so can ask for what they want, and if no-one bids or meets the price they just keep them.

We also sold a promising young Luka Vuskovic for how much 🤔

We have developed more England internationals than any other club. Both youth team players and players we signed and on the books when they got their debut.
