World Cup 2026 - Qualifiers

But the season would be shorter as a result and add no extra time to their schedule. If anything they would be travelling less.
Would it? Without international weekends the league might choose to spread the fixtures out a bit more evenly, make them less congested no? I have no idea either way so I'm not disagreeing, just playing devils advocate :) ....

Do the players get a say in this? Not sure after a nice long domestic season they then want to actually have a month or more of International football camps rather than go on their summer holidays ...

It will be no extra time. It will be the same amount of games just when they are played. Non internationals will get longer holidays though.

Yeah maybe

The logical way would be because there's no stops the season could finish 4-6 weeks earlier, then everyone could go to camp.

Less travel during the season, less so street form wise. If I was a international manager I'd much prefer it especially before a big tournament. A month tuning the team and then try an win something.

As it is I'm not sure who actually benefits. It's October and month has already been lost.

The drawback would be injuries. It's the same with the tournaments though.

The current calendar is a complete mess. They should do 2 longer windows for internationals of 3 weeks each, play 4 matches in that time and leave the rest of the season uninterrupted! Maybe Feb and November, something like that?
There is no need for as many international games.

You can cut the pre Christmas breaks down to 2, keep the March and end of season fixtures and we will be in a better place straight away.

Completely agree on the amount of international games. Get rid of that pathetic nations league BS and the calendar looks immediately better and frees up space.

FIFA/UEFA couldn’t give a flying fudge about the players though, they just want as many games as possible to keep the $$$ flowing in and them relevant (in their minds).
