World Cup 2018 Final: France vs Croatia

Why are these fudging simpletons paid to talk?

"In a few years, noone's gonna look in the record books and say 'Oh, they done this or that'"

"There's so much of them players"

How can a German be the second most eloquent in English in a room with 3 Englishmen?

The key word is deliberate.

That to me is the problem with this particular law of the game. The word ‘deliberate’ is misleading.
It’s basically a hand-to-ball movement rather than ball-to-hand. Deliberateness is subjective.
In this particular instance I think there was enough uncertainty for the referee to have the confidence to stick with his original call.
VAR overall - imo - has worked, but there are enough questionable decisions to warrant further tweaking of its implementation.

Feel a bit for Croatia, who didn't have the margins on their side tonight (apart from Hugo's howler). Soft free kick for France's first, a debatable penalty for the second, and then they fail to capitalise on a few very good chances after the break to make it 2-2. Then it's 3-1 and 4-1 and pretty much game over.

Had they kept it at 1-1 or 2-2, I think they would've won it. All ifs and buts of course. Overall the best team won the WC.

“Deliberate” isn’t subjective, it’s definitive. It requires a considered act.

That word was used for a reason.

Ok. The interpretation on whatever an action was deliberate is often subjective. Otherwise there wouldn’t be any debate about today’s decision.
