So, as predicted the Americans won their 4th Women's World Cup. Really disappointed with Netherlands who are the European champions but played like a bunch of school girls ! Thought they would make the Americans work hard but instead they went down tamely. The Americans could have easily scored 5 or 6 goals. The US had 10 shots on target compared with Netherlands who only had 1 shot on target which was a tame long range shot. The Netherlands played well in all their previous matches but just when it mattered most, they bottled it, like their men always do. This proves yet again that Netherlands will always be the biggest bottlers of world football, men or women !
US have now won 4 out of 8 Women's World Cups. The almost total domination by the US is one of the reason why the Women's World Cup will never become as popular as the men's WC. Unlike the men's WC which is very competitive and impossible to predict, the women's WC is very predictable with US miles ahead of the rest of the world. In the men's World Cup, even Brazil have not won it since 2002 while Germany have only won once since 1990. In the Women's WC, It is always the US women against the rest of the world. Can't see it changing anytime soon. There are only about 10 countries who take the women's football seriously now : US, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Norway, England, France, Australia and Japan. The rest are either still new to women's football (Netherlands/Spain/Italy/Argentina) or too poor to take it seriously. The only way other teams are going to stop the Americans are if the Americans become complacent and over confident like when Germany (2003/2007) and Japan (2011) won it. After going 16 years without winning it, the Americans won back the WC in 2015 and looks like will dominate again for years to come.
