What was the trigger in our downward trend?

Richy wasn't the profile. You never watched him before he joined us if you thought he was.

Richie replaced Bergwijn.

Absolutely in the same envelope, and the profile of players we targeted, proven performers from smaller clubs.

Richie shouldn’t be a focus though, he’s one of the few players who have given us our monies worth. It’s the likes of Madison, VDV, Xavi Simons that haven’t made the step up. And many others.

No hang up - it was the qualification of your argument!

Now you've lowered the standard - none. We have a squad with lots of potential and averageness; we lack anyone with any kind of x-factor.

No i'm saying that we have different concepts of world class. Berba and son to me were world class. They could play for any team in the world.

I tried to set that aside by saying class instead.
Which seems you agree. Problem solved.

You think Son was world class when we signed him?

Same with Berba - there was a reason the big teams didn't buy Berba and Modric; they weren't convinced.
We have to take a punt or develop talent, some of whom become world class. For every Berba, Van Nistolrooy, there's a Janssen or Rebrov.

I happen to agree on Son and Berba's ability. But Son developed into world class, Berba proved he was. It's very difficult to get the likes of Berba now because big clubs stock pile - they can afford to make the mistakes. We're in a very different footballing world now to the ones you refer.

For all the doom and gloom around our players, I'll eat my hat if at least a couple from our young 'punts' don't go to the very top - from the likes of Vuskovic, Gray, Bergvall, De Souza, Odobert, Tel etc.

And that's before you consider some of the young players coming through our club - The future can still be bright for us :) ....

Really no idea what you are trying to argue about. Spurs didn't teach son, berba or modric to kick a football. They were already class just not widely recognised. We identified them which is what we used to do. Identify the talent and buy them. We haven't done that in a while. Maybe a couple of youngsters can turn good but they need quality players in the squad to have time to. We don't have that.
Son had walker, kane, dembelle, vertonghen to help him adjust to the prem. Berba only really had keane who was the star man at tottenham.

As for the big clubs? We are the 9th richest team in world football. We are in the top 5 net spenders on players in the last 5 years. £200m last summer alone. We have wasted it and regressed to the point we are looking very likely to get relegated.

Gray I think is as close to certain as possible.
Bergvall should - although it's a little unclear what kind of player he'll be.
Moore I think will fall just short - he'll be a very good attacking midfielder but not have the attribute that makes him lethal.
Vuskovic looks like he should.
Odobert - EL level.
Tel - I still don't see it. Mid table in France.
Souza is an interesting one - literally no idea!
