what has happened to the transfer section?

Unfortunately many players will think the same in this day and age. The Champions League is where everyone wants to be. It's why if we got CL this year, it would have been very important for us, money wise, new signings etc.

Not to say I am not happy with the signings we made, Vertonghen, Lloris etc have all been great. But I still feel not getting CL hurt us despite being 4th in the league.

agreed, its a fudging miracle and testament to Levy that we did get those 2 in despite not being in the CL

If we do sign Eriksen, I hope Gutter Boy won't keep peddling his opinion of how he's a crap version of Sigurdsson because he didn't play well for Denmark on the two occasions he's seen him.

We've been linked with Vucinic again in the media today (with Llorente coming in his possibly surplus to requirements at Juve) - obviously on display in a few minutes.

Quite Berbatov like, but 29 now.

Thankfully it's a bullet we've dodged, because there's no way we'll go for him now we've got Holtby as well as Siggy for that position.

For which position?

Siggy has played mostly on the left cutting in, and Holtby hasn't really settled in one position yet for us.

#10/ACM. Or whichever of the three behind the forward isn't Bale and Lennon.

With Dempsey there too, it's actually the position we're already most overloaded in.

Although we have many central midfielders and attacking ones as well, I still think we're missing some qualities in those positions.
Someone who can give us some of what Modric and van der Vaart did. Pass and move, playmaker instinct, making the team tick, eye for the final ball.

We should be very well covered if we end up with the following:

DM: Sandro + Parker (or new, I suggest the available Rode)
CM: Dembele + Holtby
AM: Eriksen + Sigurdsson

BALE - "NEW STRIKER" - LENNON
ERIKSEN
DEMBELE - SANDRO
ROSE - VERTONGHEN - KABOUL - WALKER
LLORIS

Pritchard - "new striker" - Townsend
Sigurdsson
Holtby - Parker/Rode
(Shaw) - Caulker - Dawson - Smith
Friedel

if Spurs have been following Eriksen and have been impressed, then there is no way they will pass up the opportunity of signing him for the reported knocked down fee of 10-12 mill

Holtby will not play as a num 10 imo. Its not Sigurdssons position either. I think Dempsey was a last minute panic buy and im not sure what future he has with us

young, talented, one year left on his contract. Levy will be all over Eriksen.

Doing some reminiscing as Postigas name was brought up in the bricky XI thread. The summer we signed him, we also added Kanoute and Zamora.

We also had Keane on the books.

I'd take that forward line in a heart beat over today's.

At that age (rather than the 35 year old he is now), Kanoute alone would give us a far better first team and far stronger squad. Hell of a player.

Biggest mistake of Jol's tenure to get rid of him.

I fudging loved Kanoute. Chest like velcro.

His debut goal against Leeds was a thing of beauty.

I loved Kanoute, but at the time I remember thinking "Well if they think Mido is the future then I don't mind letting Kanoute go". I'm pretty sure most of us were suckered into thinking Mido would fufil his potential and become a great player for us! Despite a few glimpses of quality how wrong we were! :(

EDIT: Just checked Mido's stats and since he joined us and he really has had a terrible career! He's now 30 and hasn't scored more than 6 goals in a season since his loan spell with us in 05/06!

2005–2006 → Tottenham Hotspur (loan) 36 (13)
2006–2007 Tottenham Hotspur 12 (1)
2007–2010 Middlesbrough 25 (6)
2009 → Wigan Athletic (loan) 12 (2)
2009–2010 → Zamalek (loan) 15 (1)
2010 → West Ham United (loan) 9 (0)
2010 → Ajax (loan) 5 (2)
2011–2012 Zamalek 3 (2)
2012–2013 Barnsley 1 (0)

I think it was more Kanoute wanting to move to a bigger club than us getting rid, don't forget they won 2 UEFA cups, a Spanish cup and nearly won the league, they were a much greater force then than they are now.

Wasn't there some issue with the ACN and also some preseason tourney that tinkled off old BMJ. Chimbonda was in the same boat but I think he grovel led out an apology.

I loved Kanoute too, he's just the style of striker that we adore. A player with a good first touch, good in the air, scores goals and unselfish. He's just the type of player that we could do with now.

The whole ACN issues are obviously what soured support for him, which is unfair given the relatively short time that he was away. If he qualified to play for a country and was recognised and invited to play for that country then the only reason we can be mad at him for taking up the opportunity is our own desperation in not having an adequate player in back up for him.

I'm having horrible flashbacks of Keane and Defoe having to start together.. man that was painful.

It's strange how Keane, Kanoute, Berbatov, Mido, Crouch, Pav, Bent, Ade and probably others I have forgotten have all kept Defoe out of the side at various periods.. Yet he has outlasted them all and we're now desperately reliant on him!

I kinda want Pav back at the moment and yet, at the time, I was his biggest hater on here. I just want a striker that scores goals!!

Don't let that devalue my Kanoute moment, I would want Kanoute or Berbatov back if I could have any striker from within the last ten years.

But despite Pav's pinball table controls and his fantastically wild shooting at times, he did still score goals and important goals at that. I'm fickle, definitely, but is it such a crime to want a striker to be scoring goals? Especially when we must pay out around £150,000 per week on 2 strikers who seem totally incapable of scoring at the moment.

In financial terms, if the ticket price is an average £50 per home game, then 3,000 fans pay good money each week to watch our two continually fluff their lines. That's not good enough! Especially when we only play around 34 home games per season in all competitions and that would increase the 3,000 to just over 4,500 fans paying a ticket price to watch Adebayor and Defoe take shooting practice at the opposition keeper, seeming as if they are trying to hit him and not put the ball past him!

Sorry, rant over...please bring us goals!!

Crystal Palace have signed Aruna Dindane. He used to be brick hot at some point I think.
