Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Makes you wonder who the next Ange / Lange priority signing is. I'm thinking the 2 positions that Davies currently covers in the squad.

I'd like to think that Lange and his department would have an up to date knowledge of players across the UK & abroad so that any time the manager says he needs to strengthen X,Y or Z there's a list of players at the ready to be offered up.

I think LB & LCB would be high on the managers list atm as there's no ready made cover/competition for Udogie or VdV. From there it comes down to which positions Ange isn't happy with what we currently have.

I think the plan is for one of the three young CBs to take the CB role and potentially we get someone in who is HG for left back
Maybe even KWP

I'm nowhere near as concerned about HG after the last window. In that respect we're a trifle short for Europe in this season and perhaps next but for the PL we're fine, as we will be in European competition from 2026 onwards.

If we were to look at the team critically

- LB cover, backup GK, possible RW cover are the obvious holes

The real question is who is the next 60M player as an upgrade? I'd say right now, the DM position seems most likely

I'm with you 100%.

I think in the next two windows we will sign LB cover (Dorgu has been the most linked) and a new GK (I'd love us to get Kelleher who wants out at Liverpool).

Next summer I think we'll see a dominating number 6 type player come in and also look to sell Richarlison and replace him with a younger, fitter player. I saw some links to Delap today from Ipswich today, I think he would be a great option as backup/competition for Solanke.

I think the link with Jonathan David as a replacement for Richy makes sense
Also a gamble on Angel Gomes for a free does too
I think the money signing will be Eze
Fully agree around Kelleher. I love Vicario and think there isn’t a better shot stopper. But I lived Gomes because he was similar
Kelleher is just more functional and that may be better in this kind of football
We would double our money on Vicario and pay that for Kelleher

It's tough to really know which of our youngsters fill the slots vacated by Reguilon, Richi, Forster, Whiteman, Werner, Solomon, Gil and Davies.

I get the feeling that GK and LB might need to be the 2 positions where we look externally in the short term. Kelleher would be amazing. I've thought for a while that he's selling himself short only having 48 appearances as he approaches his 26th b'day. It also seems Chelsea are interested in Dorgu, but he looks a good fit for us as well.

Not knowing the runway of Devine, Donley, Hall, Abbott makes it hard to call what might happen in midfield. Wouldn't surprise me if we went for Eze to join Kulu and Madds in the AM department.

I think the ship has sailed with Eze personally.
If Kelleher comes in it would have to be as number 1. Just saw stats which said Vicario has the best passing stats of any keeper this season???

I really hope so, for me its our biggest problem

But that doesn’t mean they are good passes
We have great stats on dealing with set pieces but Vicario hasn’t been convincing on them
Eze would suit the twin 10 role we seem to have now in some games

I think he’s too old for us to consider him now. He’ll be nearly 28 next summer, which is too old for the cost Palace will demand. I think, like Steff, that that ship sailed this summer.

EDIT. It will actually be 27, but I think the point remains. We don’t typically spend big money on players that old, particularly when we have a conveyor belt of talent in that area coming through.

Agreed, ship has sailed, I'd also how much he and palace have dropped off a cliff this season won't help.

We just spent that kind of money on Solanke who is a simailr age ish

True
But it’s about backing the manager

After this season, Eze will have just 2 years left on his contract. I think the player himself will want to boost his earnings and get that big contract that will take him into his early thirties.

I think the interest will increase in him from the big 6 or 7 clubs, starting January. It didn't really develop in the summer.

I still can't really place where we would play him though. At the moment you'd have to say competing with Madds and Kulu. Not sure whether he's prolific enough to be placed as a left forward.

Exactly where you say
In the madds Kulu role
Donley isnt ready yet And I don’t Bergvall will be for a few years too

Saw that Vicario has the highest pass accuracy but guess it’s to be expected when Ange has him passing short far more often than any other goalie.

ICYMI in the Vicario thread…

But Solanke was a player that the whole system of Ange's play required. I'm not convinced the same is true of Eze.

ME either and he has fallen off a cliff this season, I know Palace have but for a 65m player to not eve step up and stand out in that decline, thats a worry. We have had many of them in the past
