Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Hard to separate the two in my opinion. For example, I’m not surprised the CBs are making individual errors given the fact that they are asked to play in a system which physically and mentally stretches them to the limit for the full 90+ minutes of every game.

It’s more the mad yelling (mostly at the younger and inexperienced players, I’ve noticed - I’ve yet to see him give Romero a b ollocking) and the wild arm gesticulations that get me. He looks like a particularly angry Italian traffic cop.

Great shot stopper, questionable in most other areas of the game for me.
I think Vicario is in the bottom 6 keepers in the PL. It was like a whole new goalkeeping concept had been demonstrated at our stadium on Sunday watching Ipswich's keeper properly dominate his penalty area.

Notts Forest (who already have a better keeper than us) tried to buy Kelleher from victims in the last transfer window but couldn't find enough to pay the fee for him due to their FFP issues. Found it incredibly strange that we were not in for him.

I don't think it's strange at all that we aren't buying competition for a starting GK position less than 18 months after buying a first choice GK

Noticed the same against Villa last week, Martinez took control of the 6 yard box. Vicario acts like he’s not allowed to come off the goal line for corners.

I think some of that is we don't appear to apply any of the fun and games/mischief on attacking corners that opponents bestow on us when they have an attacking corner. Sad really.

Why would I buy a new private plane after only 18 months of flying time for my existing one?

Because one of the engines keeps shutting down mid flight, and all of the warning lights blink every time it’s airborne.

Luckily we don’t have that issue with our keeper
The engines of that plane are in front of him

I am absolutely onboard with an upgrade, and agree that Kelleher would be an excellent choice. I remain unconvinced we'll do such business (sadly)...would it contravene our 'purchase limit' per window?!!!!!!!!

I rate Kelleher
But it only makes sense if we get a good return on Vicario who for me is the best shot stopper in the league

If the difference between a clear upgrade was 10-20 million (in terms of sale versus purchase) it is a no-brainer if we're serious. Ultimately it is about what Ange want to do obviously :)

just dropped in on this GK situation.
So If Vicario can up his game and command the goal area more...we have a really good keeper right?
Is that possible or more likely not?

I don’t mean the money
I’d guess it would be like for like if the suitors are there
Inter or Juve were talked about as clubs wanting Vicario
I’d guess it would be £40m for each player but it may well suit all parties

He commanded his area really well imo first half of last season
This season we haven’t concede a goal because of his “weakness”.
We have conceded from 2 corners, one of which was a foul on Romero imo
We haven’t conceded any other goals form something he has done

I don't think it's about set-pieces. That is a myth. I will only speak for myself, but I am talking about an air of calm and authority in general. I cannot believe that his overall aura does not contribute somehow to our jitteriness defensively. Add that to his public gonading of young players, and it is not helping foster calm. Again, he has some great talent and I do like him, but it becomes about whether we can get better to gain that extra 10-20% to be that extra 10-20%...

Possibly
Hard to tell
Personally I think the jitteriness js because none of the defenders have any leadership qualities. Not one
I wouldn’t back any of them for a battle of a game
They all have some exceptional qualities but when you look at it it’s an odd blend
The ballers are on the right (arguably our 2 best passers)
The runners are on the left (neither is a stand out passer). It’s something that’s bugged me but never really gets mentioned
Then add in that they are all weak in the air and it’s possible they make Vicario jittery
Could be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other
And then add in their combined lack of experience and it’s a bad mix possibly

I think this is a really fair appraisal of the situation overall. I do think we possibly expect more of Romero in terms of leadership simply because he has won a World Cup. And true to say we do not have an arial dominator. Much to ponder here...

I heard a podcast episode last night about how a football team from Norway, Tromsø (we played them in the euro league back in 2013), sacrificed a goat in the middle of their pitch at night to somehow get rid of a curse a shaman had put on them. They had lost and lost and lost, then they sacrificed the goat (they were told by another shaman-type that was the only way to get rid of the curse), and they started winning again and stayed up against all odds! Now, I'm in the odd position of being both superstitious and a vegetarian - so I can't condone killing a goat up in the cheese lounge, but surely it is worth a try? What kind of spiritual hot shot has got anything against us? Did we not pay Uri Geller that one time he did a job for us? The son in law of the king of Norway, Harald (big Spurs fan), is a self proclaimed shaman. Worth a punt? I am not back on the shrooms, by the way, just wanting us to turn every stone.

If only it was that easy. We all know it's the accumulation of terrible OMTs that is doing us in. 😫
Was on the way to a home game once and there was a homeless man saying that the badger was facing the wrong way and that's what was bringing the bad luck.

I must admit that I've wondered a few times since that day if he is onto something.
