Welbeck

Adebeyor's was Emirates Marketing Project's reject, would you say he's stuck up our place?

At times, yes. Neither of them are ideal, but even though Welbeck can bothered to make an effort most of the time, even a 50% Ade is much better. No amount of trying can make up for lack of talent.

What is good about someone else's reject stinking up our place?

Because the only remaining gap left in the squad is that of a wide, pacy left sided forward willing to track back, press in midfield and help out the full back - yet have the energy to get back up the pitch.

Wellbeck is tailor made for that role; he may not be flashy but I am very confident he will be extremely effective.

And the best thing is... if it does not work out, we have only forfeited a 1.5 mill loan fee - and we go for JRod next summer.

Agreed. Wellbeck is not what we need.

What we need is a decent left sided winger who can chip in with goals. Wellbeck doesn't have the pace for it, and his finishing leaves a hell of a lot to be desired. Sure he'd be good defensively, but we've already got one winger too many who's defensively minded and makes few offensive contributions.

Wait for January and go for J Rod from saints, if it looks like he's recovered from his injury.

Also, as vertonghen didn't sign for arsenal because he didn't want to be a DM, why would Welbeck sign to play on the left, when he clearly wants to be a striker?

No disrespect, but if Poch wants him (he would not have gone to see the Dons match if he didn't) then I know whose judgement I would trust.

No we don't. If we did we would have gone for Depay. Poch's game uses a striker comfortable on the left, not a left winger who can score.

I understand and appreciate that football is a game of opinions; however there are also clear facts - and one of those facts is that - for a striker, Wellbeck has above average pace. He certainly has more pace than JRod

That would still be an option because it is a loan

Wellbeck never complained of being played on the left. What he wants is regular games which we certainly can provide. in addition, he will be played as a striker - just left of centre.

I thought Wellbeck does have pace?

He's not the quickest in my mind, and he takes a while to get going. We should be looking at better.

And you can probably get better from Europe for less £££.

Though at some level it does **** me off that should you want to play English players you've got to pay double what they're worth. It's hurting the development of our national side because there's no value for European teams in there.

Imagine if they pushed the 'home grown' thing more? Like you have to include two English players in your starting eleven or some such. Prices would sky rocket.

To be fair I don't think it's a necessity for Poch's system, lamela isn't exactly lightning quick - I don't think Wellbeck is any slower than him. He has more skill than some have given him credit for, some of the goals he has scored both domestic and internationally have demonstrated extremely good technique/skill. He's not consistent enough with his finishing though, but I don't think he'd be bought in to compete for CF role anyway, just an added bonus he can play there...

Right now we're in a situation where to facilitate Benjamin Stambouli one of our current non-home-grown players will have to leave (perhaps Holtby).

Welbeck could instead replace Obika in one of the home-grown slots.

BAE and Khumalo won't be here/named in the 17.

Dont know where the doubt about Welbeck having pace comes from. The boy is quick..

Have a look at this vid and you will see him outrun a number of players including Ashley Cole twice.. He actually reminds me a lot of a younger, hungry Adebeyor. Similar weaknesses and strengths. I would like him on loan but only really with a perm deal in the offering as well as think he will be a success.

Very confident this will work out well for us. Seems a player can do a role given to him by a manager, and we've all seen how Poch has improved players who can follow his lead.

I didnt want DW but after todays performance I can see him doing better than a few of the ****e we have.

Agreed. I don't want him, but Jesus we need something. It was SO poor today as to defy belief.
Just shows, one thing to beat the Cypriots, QPR and scrape past Wet Spam, but we are MILES away from the top 4. Haven't moved-on at all from last season on today's showing.
