Report: Spurs offered Kyle Walker-Peters in Aaron Wan-Bissaka bid

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly failed with a move for Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur did want to sign Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and even offered Kyle Walker-Peters in a deal.

Spurs are facing major changes at right back this summer, as Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier may both be moved on to make way for new blood.

A few names have been mentioned, and it's now believed that Tottenham wanted to land Palace star Wan-Bissaka, but were scared off by the money involved.

Spurs did make a clever swap bid though, offering up right back Walker-Peters in a part-exchange deal, but Palace rejected the offer to take Manchester United's £50million bid instead.

It's claimed that Walker-Peters could still end up at Palace though, as the Eagles are still interested in landing him as a replacement for Wan-Bissaka when his £80k-a-week United deal goes through.

Missing out on the 21-year-old Englishman is a major blow for Spurs, as he ticked all the right boxes. He's young, he's homegrown, he's got huge potential, and he plays in a position where Spurs would love to have their first choice for the next five to ten years.

Wan-Bissaka could have been that player, but Spurs were allegedly put off the finances involved, whereas United were happy to cough up £50million and an £80,000-a-week contract.

Tottenham fans had been vocal on Twitter admitting that they wanted Wan-Bissaka to join, and missing out will be a bitter pill to swallow for supporters, especially if Walker-Peters still ends up going.

After last season I think its pretty obvious KWP isnt expected to step up/be a first teamer, and at 22 it would be time for him to move on and play football.

Somewhere like Palace would be really good for him I think, they have a good touch with RBs and he will certainly get games in Wan Bissakas absence.

I was at old Trafford yesterday for a works thing
Not one person I spoke to up here is remotely excited for next year
They have pretty much written off two seasons “to give Ole time”
Then one lad I was talking too piped up.... since the arabs started at city they have put in as much money as the Glazers have taken out ... quite a scary inditement

A pundit was brutal on United's chances next season, his comment was "success for United next season will be not having to fire OGS"

If this proposed KWP for AWB swap thing was true, subject to Kyle agreeing, maybe we should try the same thing with Norwich in a bid for Max Aarons.

Surely we didn't offer a straight swap with no money involved.

That would be like bidding £15m for awb.

Tbh all three right backs can put last season behind them and perform a lot better next season.

Trippier I would be most open to selling because of his age and the apparent interest in him, whilst kwp could have a loan at somewhere like palace, where it would be good to see how he does playing regularly in the pl.

Aurier I’d keep but I'm starting to get concerned about his constant muscle injuries.

In the end it wouldn't be a disaster if we ended up with two of our current three for next season but I can see trippier going and kwp going on loan, with aarons joining and establishing himself as first choice, especially as his main competition cant seem to stay fit for more than a few months in a row.

There is nothing about KWP that suggests to me that he will be an elite RB

Well there is his consistently outstanding performances at youth level and for the england u21s.

There has also been signs for the first team where defensively in one on one situations by the byline he tends to win the ball or get a block in nearly every time.

Also good going forward with one game getting a hatrick of assists.

His biggest problem for me is his size of upper body frame and his confidence, looks a little scared at times but he can shake that off with more experience.

Fair enough but I don't see it

Neither does management considering the chances he has been afforded over the past couple of years where we have had a dearth of options in his preferred position - that says all that needs saying really. It is strange that being the case though as imo he generally has looked competent when played

have to say it’s not a signing that will have the great players around the reply thinking I wanna play for United because their signing top players

So that's only 10 of their starting side United need to upgrade now

I feel sorry for AWB that the next stage of his development will be under the tuterlage of Jones and smalling

He is quality make no bones about it. Had he signed for us you would be tossing yourself silly
It will be interesting. He has gone from really good up and coming player to high expectation now. The perception of him will be higher than his actual current ability.
How Soljkaer manages that will be key
