Vincent Janssen

but then the whole system suffers, that's an always on out ball enabling rentention and vertical yardage, it also moves the defence around potentially making space for runners from deep and overloads on the other side of the field

I get the theory of dialling the role back but I don't think you can uncoach that, its instinctive by the time you get out of the u12's

in the system(s) we play with one forward, they are the first line of defence and we need the disruption that that work brings

You can ask him to turn and run to the centre of the box when he has laid the ball off though

I just think that he needs a goal or two to get him going

Absolutely, but where is it going to come from? Soldado was in the same position and I have to say he was playing far better. His movement was great, he was getting into good positions and getting shots off. Keepers made some top, top saves to deny him too from memory. He didn't get the magic goals either.

I think it might, but I think goals are overrated and a by product of an effective system so how a player contributes to that is more important

I'd agree with that with regards to our overall play but I do think that it is affecting Jannsen's confidence and that his all round play is worse as a result.

They are different players. Just because it didn't work out for one, it doesn't mean that the same will happen to the other.

That is my point...Soldado was doing far, far better than Janssen. He was also getting in assists. He did score some goals from open play too.

He was a more experienced player. I don't think that one has any bearing on the other, the only similarity is that they both struggled to settle.

maybe, I think today's performance was as much to do with rustiness and rotation though

He was poor today, there is no denying it, but there were some mitigating circumstances which posters have already commented on.

I was watching his movement off the ball for a while and he is making some good runs, looking for through balls but none were forthcoming today. The guys playing behind him today did not play a ball between the defenders all game. So he did come short to mix it up and get a touch every now and then but this didn't really help our game for the first 60mins or so. Although we looked better when he was off, it was the formation change that altered the pattern of the game more than subs IMO.

No young player drops into the side and looks on point. Kane looked rusty when he was just back, and I'm not sure Kane would have done a great deal better than Janssen did in a packed defence without much support or space.

Worrying thing is his confidence must be low, and the doom mongers are circling, only creating more pressure.

Poch needs to put lots of faith in him, take off the pressure, get him watching his old goals, and send him into the next game relaxed and let him play his game. His head drops too quickly. Most strikers need a sighter or wild opening shot. But you feel that they really effect him and he loses any confidence he had. Has to keep his head up, he has ability.

The kids 22. He has ample time to turn it around, and you never know he could be crucial in our run in. The club and he need to keep upbeat about his prospects. Poch needs to say something positive in public about him and lift him a little.

Irrespective of level and how well he played today, his style of play simply isn't suitable for us. He's infinitely more comfortable with his back to goal rather than facing goal and we need someone who can also run in behind defenders and run at them as Kane can. Given we have the majority of possession in games, his style doesnt work for us. Therefore, whilst I like him and think he's a genuine, honest player who is giving 110%, I don't think he's right for us so we need another CF

I don't think that is necessarily right. We have attacking midfielders who are more than capable of going past him and getting goals, so it could suit our game and be a useful tactic. I also do not think that we are seeing the complete player at the moment and if he finds his feet, there will be a lot more to his game.

Ha ha. That sums up Eriksen nicely, up top he appears cool calm and collected, down below his little legs are hammering away like a hamster's knackers on a treadmill
New nickname for Eriksen? The Swan :) Will go well with all the badgers around.

I agree his style of play needs players running off him to take advantage of his hold up play. He did not have a good game today and the harder he tried the more things went wrong for him.
