Im 63 my pup days are still on going I'm please to say, but that's another story.
Sheringham is not playing in the EPL now and nor Lineker they are history.

I'm not writing him off.

Im am surprised at his overall lack of footballing fundamentals for a striker at a top club in our league.

+ He's a hard worker.
- He has poor ball control.
- He is not a good passer.
- He is poor in the air.
+ He was cheap

Dutch football has been in decline for many many seasons. Janssen is not a dud (but he maybe a dude) he was great last season for AZ but they are probably at best championship and may be division one level.

Really wish we would stop bargain hunting! It is not a critcism aimed at Vincent.

Your minus points could be said of Kane as well, maybe more so.

It's to early to tell whether he'll be a success or not or read to much into numbers and figures but at the moment I think he has looked pretty capable and he's still settling in. More importantly he's only young and most players take a few games to acclimatise to a bigger league. I think we should give him a game up front on his own and let him play in the system that worked so well for us last season.

Possibly, but 4 of our first XI played over there before coming here: Toby, Vert, Dembele (was at AZ too iirc), Eriksen and in the case of Vertonghen and Eriksen, we bought them direct from Dutch football.

Give Vinny a bit of time -- for what it's worth, I was having the conversation with my dad last night, he's written him off already haha. I really try not to do it anymore because we have had so many players in recent years who came good. In our first team right now, I'd say Dembele, Lamela, Kane, Walker and Rose have all be written off at some stage, only to go and and become excellent players for us. I don't know if Jannsen will do that, all I think is that it's too early to say yet, so let's give him a chance.
 
I think the stick he's getting on here is very harsh. He's a young player, just moved club, just moved country for the first time, hasn't had a decent run in the team, etc

He looks very similar to Kane to me, which in some ways is good (ie if Kane is injured then you have a replacement which doesnt need the style of team to change) but is bad in so much that he doesnt enable us to change the way we're playing if things arent going well

Of course I will give him time.
We must though start to get better quality rather looking for bargains for these 'important' positions!

Our wage ceiling is going to continue to hold us back. There are players who would rather play for a non-CL team while trousering an extra 20-50 grand a week.
 
Bizarre to have a go at Janssen after his cameo role should have saved us a point after he created a guilt-edged chance for Kane to equalize out of nothing. If anything, I'm much more concerned about Harry's early struggles this season. I think VJ has been much more impressive this season than Kane.

Hmmmm.... I think his control when under pressure has been very good (he holds the ball up better than Kane IMO). I think his passing is fine for a number 9 (put one on a plate for Kane last night)
I think he is good in the air (again I think he scores at least as well as Kane here)

I don't think 18 million is a 'bargain'. It is in our top 5 transfer fees ever paid I would imagine?

There were several strikers moving for a lot less or even on 'try before you buy' loans.

The fact we got him reasonably early is surely good indication that he was on Poch's shortlist at the very least?

I assume Baka is Bacca from Milan? He could've been a good call actually.

Long is an interesting one. Work rate and a real nuisance for defences but has never been prolific.

I think all 3 wouldve been ok for Spurs, but the first we never would've got. I think the second would've wanted first team place assurances and the third I don't think is any better than the one we signed.
