Vincent Janssen

Actually it's more a technical reason as it turns out.....

Clubs that play in the Champions League actually submit two lists of players for registration. “List A” is comprised of a max of 25 players. Two of them have to be keepers, and eight spots are reserved for “club trained players,” defined as players trained by the club for three years between the ages of 15-21, or who were on another club’s roster in the same association for three years in the same period. You can’t have more than 4 association-trained players on List A.

“List B” can be filled with players who are 21 or under and who have been at the club for at least two years. There’s no limit to the number of players who can be on this list. Players from List B can feature for a club in the Champions League match so long as they register him a day before the match.

Kilpatrick has it wrong. He (or worse someone at the club) doesn't understand club trained

Here's the official pdf (relevant section starts on page 40)

43.02

No club may have more than 25 players on List A during the season, two of whom must be goalkeepers. As a minimum, eight places are reserved exclusively for "locally trained players" and no club may have more than four "association- trained players" listed on these eight places on List A. List A must specify the players who qualify as being "locally trained", as well as whether they are "club- trained" or "association-trained". The possible combinations that enable clubs to comply with the List A requirements are set out in Annex H.

So a maximum of 17 non locally trained

43.04

A "club-trained player" is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which he turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months.

A club trained player can be an 18 year old who has been at the club 3 seasons

43.05

An "association-trained player" is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the same association as that of his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or of 36 months.

An association trained player can be an 18 year old who has been at an English club for 3 seasons

Now to the B list

43.10

Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season. The list must be submitted by no later than 24.00CET on the day before the match in question.

43.11

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1996 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption.

So a B list player has to have been at the club for 2 years!

So taking our squad from https://www.premierleague.com/news/465277

Alderweireld, Toby Albertine 1

Aurier, Serge 2

Davies, Benjamin Thomas Association-trained player

Dembele, Mousa 3

Rose, Daniel Lee Club trained player

Sissoko, Moussa 13

Trippier, Kieran John Association-trained player

Vertonghen, Jan 14

Vorm, Michel 15

Wanyama, Victor 16

Under-21 players (excluding players out on loan, sorted by age to make it easier)

Harry Winks Club-trained player Also eligible for B list

Dele Alli Association-trained player Also eligible for B list

Davinson Sánchez 17

Joe Pritchard Club-trained player Also eligible for B list

Luke Amos Club-trained player Also eligible for B list

Shayon Harrison Club-trained player Also eligible for B list

Ryan Loft Club-trained player Also eligible for B list

Christian Maghoma Club-trained player Also eligible for B list

Juan Foyth 18

-stopping here but there are plently more eligible for both lists

We can make up our 8 locally trained with 3 association trained (Davies, Tripper and Alli) and 5 club trained (Kane, Rose, Winks, Walker-Peters and Georgiou)

That leaves the club with 17 places for 18 players non locally trained player.

The obvious one to leave out is the 3rd keeper.

maybe not, but in Janssen's case it probably is a close as you can get. Barring injuries to Kane and Llorente he wont feature much at all.
You just proved my point mate, injuries are a BIG factor. Also I'd say was more telling if he was on the PL bench and consistently not used, or even worse not even on the bench....

It's finally begining to dawn on those who defended him so vigorously (despite the player showing so little) that he actually doesn't have a future at the club. The writing was clearly on the wall in February when Poch made his comments about him not showing enough. The player is no where near the required standard.

Correction to the post above Davies isn't association trained evne though Swansea play in the English League which is nuts.
That meant that there were only 17 places in the squad for non locally trained and 19 players to fill them.

How the 3rd keeper got in ahead of Janssen and Lamela I will never know.

The question I want to know is did the club think Foyth and Sanchez would have been B list players hence the extra two players.

Although it's still only an estimate Lamela is not due back until mid/late October at the earliest which would mean he'd miss the first 3/4 of our 6 group games, so you can kind of understand why he's not been selected for now and I doubt he'd be rushed back into action after such a long lay off.

As for Janssen it wouldn't surprise me after this if we don't see him in a Spurs shirt again if Kane and Llorente stay fit until the next window.

Its from the end of the UEFA pdf I linked.

Basically the club has gone with the 24th row 17 "free players" 1 Association trained, 2 club trained. That's what lots of people would call a 20 man squad. But the likes of Winks, Alli, Walker Peters aren't included in that 20. They are under 21 and are in the B list.
The club could send in a '25 man squad' like in row 4 above with 17 "free players" 2 Association trained, 6 club trained. The likes of Alli, Winks and Walker Peters would move up from the B list to a A list.

But it doesn't make any difference we would still be limited to 17 "free players". We have 19 players for those 17 places.

The benefit to keeping the players in the B list is if we sign an English player in January(Barkley), there is a place in the CL ready for them. If it was filled we would have to remove someone.

Anyway I'm still shocked Poch has chosen a third keeper over a third striker. We have plenty of young keepers on the B list that could be used a 3rd keeper if needed.

If he truly does not think he will get games and lets be very honest it looks unlikely, then there is no way he should be wasting his time getting splinters in his arse at Spurs.
Vinny needs to be playing.
Brighton were at least in the Premiership when they 'allegedly' bid for him, the next time they do, they may well be in the Championship.

I don't think Janssen realized someone like Llorente was coming in on deadline day. By then Stoke and West Brom were no longer interested and he probably felt Brighton were too small and relegation bound. So he chose to stay.

Better stay even if he is given very few chances and just wait till January with the hope that a decent club will come in for him.

If we were trying to move him on because we were bringing in Llorente, we would have made him aware of this.

I'm not sure we would until Llorente was confirmed, hence the last minute Brighton link. You can't blame him for not wanting to make a life changing decision on the spot, not of his own making.

I don't blame him. I just think that if we were trying to move him on, we would've been clear why. There was nothing to be gained from not telling him and it could've proved counterproductive.
