Victor Osimhen

Thinking only of the footballing aspects with no financial considerations…

Would you rather have Savinho & Gakpo, or Osimhen?

Osimhen for me.

It’s an interesting hypothetical. My instincts say VO because a top striker can raise a team’s ceiling. But then I remember that we had Kane and Son and the reality is that if we look dysfunctional or lack quality throughout the side, the guys up top can only do so much.

So I’d say get Savinho and Gakpo, if that was the choice. I believe that Solanke and Richarlison are both good players, who through injuries and playing in a terrible side in a terrible season haven’t been able to show anywhere near their best. But I would say are capable of finishing the chances that quality players in a well tuned system would create for them.

Frankly if Solanke can stay fit I think he’s just a great
player, you can tell with his touch and decision making that he has it. Richy is the weird one. Because he can score some fantastic goals, including a well placed first time finish today, but can also make utterly dreadful decisions and be unable to control the football for multiple games.

Osimhen for me too.

Kinsky, senesi, van hecke, tonali, fernandez and now tel can get the ball into the penalty box - we just lack a fast and strong striker to get on the end of those.

All he needs to do is last the half the season before Solanke is back and we can get goals from Kulu and Maddision as AMs. Shouldn't be too difficult as its one game per week. Though i am sure Osimhen will want to prioritize a CL side at the very least

Not necessarily... it's not as if he is in a side that is regularly making the CL semis or in a top league... Of course the same salary was offered by the scum up the road or the likes of a Barca, then I would agree. But can't see them getting having him and Gyokeres and the current situation with the big European clubs makes it likely for us to be the only ones able and willing to come close to the salary he wants. In that case, cannot see CL as being a major issue.

I guess the bit I'm not getting is what other clubs would give VO his current salary? He would surely have to move to somewhere like Saudi to find parity. That means there should be a deal to be done IF the player wants a move. If he doesn't then he is contracted until 28/29 and will just have to suck it up and stay at Gala.

That’s the kicker
It’s why is aid I think he would take lower wages to play in the prem (but would still be on mega money)

I know data is inaccurate in this area, but I think we have a situation where Haaland is the outlier to the PL. The natural ceiling seems about £300k per week and there is a cluster of players at or towards that level. I think Erling has something more like £500k because of the low transfer fee etc. VVD might be towards £350k as the only player I saw above £300k.

So the question becomes whether VO thinks he's a Haaland and no deal can be done OR he will agree to join the £300k club and come to the PL.

Look if he wants money he will go Saudi and if he wants the prem then Arsenal will match our wages offer and offer CL football. It’s about as simple as that

Well players are joining other clubs other than Arsenal so maybe VI would make the same call as others
Who knows
I know that some players look at who the manager is as key
I’m not convinced that in the game Lego head is as well thought of as he is by the Arsenal fan base

It might well be. What I would say is that if that scenario plays out then we might want to think of our alternative options factoring in Kroupi, Marmoush and Endrick.

I'd happily take Marmoush but if he can't or won't come could we engineer a move for Endrick now (loan?) and bide our time for Kroupi in Jan? That could shift things around.

I do find it interesting that we used the loan system for Palhinha and Muani last season. No sniff of a loan this one though.

Not when faced with a choice between Arsenal or Spurs. Arteta has just won a league title and lost a CL final on penalties. We may not like the guy but he’s undoubtedly one of the best managers in the game right now. I feel sick typing that but it’s true.

Hmm. He went further than any other manager in analysing the risks and benefits of various kinds of shîthousery and exploiting that knowledge. He did so at a convenient time, when nobody with influence over PGMOL was inclined to rock the boat, because a non-City win was very helpful for the premier league’s international reputation. Makes him one of the most cunning, and lucky, managers, but not necessarily one of the best.

I don’t think he is but that’s an opinion I have
He may be a decent coach and I may be wrong (let’s see). I’ve seen nothing clever from him other than ensuring he gets more time as a manger and gets an absolute fortune spent to back him. That takes skill
he is one of the most financially backed managers in the game
But he has won the title and has lost the CL final as you say
That will appeal to players
But some players also want a challenge to prove their worth, and some don’t as we have seen with some of our signings

This
Bit of he does go on and repeat some league wins and win a European trophy then I’ll change my tune
I don’t think that Osihmen is a great set piece target form what I remember but I may be wrong

That’s a very Spurs tinted glasses view IMO. He’s built one of the best defences in Europe and one of the best squads too. I hate their style of play but he’s consistently had them in the top 2 when other clubs like United and Chelsea have spunked hundreds of millions up the wall and have been nowhere near challenging. Chelsea don’t even have European football this year FFS!

There was massive inconsistency in the PL in terms of ref'ing, they benefitted from it and in fairness, they played the game to exploit that IMO, not sure it was enough to win the league but the massively did.

Well the data shows the decisions that went their way was the difference in points
But they were, for sure, the most effective side in the league last season

Had them 8th and 8th
And had their fans wanting him gone
That is also true

Did Mourinho do anything clever when he won PL titles? Chelsea and United have spent similar amounts to Arteta and have next to nothing to show for it in the last 2-3 years in terms of league campaigns. Chelsea have been absolutely nowhere near challenging. Liverpool spent £300m last season and didn’t challenge. I can’t stand Arteta but to say he’s not a good coach or is lucky is just Spurs tinted delusion.

I don’t disagree that they had massive help from the officiating but they challenged for years even before they went all dark artsy. They’ve been getting similar numbers to what Poch did here in terms of goals scored and conceded and our fans lauded him as the best pound for pound manager in the game, albeit with much more money than Poch had.
