You're very mistaken, because that's exactly how it was. Without the endless microscopic forensic analysis of VAR, fans accepted the game for what it was. Some decisions went against you, and some went for you. And that was it. It was occasionally annoying, but nothing more. Next time around, something went in your favour.
That's what they told us, but that's not how it worked.
Even if you take away VAR, Sky and similar will still keep going over the images to find fault and trying to get managers to attack the refereeing performance afterwards. We'll never get a culture of accepting errors and moving on.
The offside checks must get quicker. Do that and the major grievance people have right now will be gone. They also need VAR to actually make calls. Get rid of the pitchside screens, they're a waste of time. Why can't football have a refereeing setup where everyone works together like in other sports instead of one man being in charge of every decision?
Even if we had a computer that was 100% right and only took seconds to reach even the most difficult decisions there would still be moaning. Some parties want the controversy, whether it's for financial reasons or they've simply decided they don't want this and will never accept it.
