UEFA Women's EURO

4th semi in a row they said.. does seem a bit over the top, although maybe they realise Spain were the biggest threat, who knows

Apparently Spain were the favourites coming into the tournament and rank above England in the standings. So the view was, that if we get past them, then we have a good chance to go all the way

Yes, I thought I heard them saying Spain were favourites coming in, although they have lost two key players.

In the FIFA rankings they are only one place above England (7th v 8th). Above both are Sweden, France, the Netherlands and Germany (2nd through 5th), who are all still in the tournament. England will likely get Sweden next and then one of the others in the final. So on paper it won't get easier, as you'd expect for these championships (no lucky Southgate draw).

Perhaps the celebrations were because they were so close to going out.

I read that when they set the size of the goals the average man was about as tall as the women footballers are now. Perhaps the men's game needs bigger goals to compensate to the larger players and greater athleticism.

The Swedish goalkeeper won't want to watch the replays. She could have done better on all the goals. Her best "save" was the shot Russo hit straight at her. It's funny that Russo wouldn't have scored the wonder goal that has made her famous if she hadn't "missed a sitter" (her words).

Wembley seems to be sold out tmw.

So the game will Have the highest attendance recorded in a European championship game - mens football included.

The English team have improved so much in the last two years. I really enjoy watching them knock the ball around and some really high level skill coming to the fore now.
