Very good suggestion.
Buy to improve the first team (2 or 3), relegate the replaced 2 or 3 to the 'squad' or sell and integrate 2 or 3 of the youth to the squad.
Years ago with only 1 sub allowed it used to be a 'reserve' player predominantly and due to that they got a lot of game time which gave them the confidence and belief to perform and they certainly held their own, ie. Mark Falco coming into the team replacing Archibald or Crooks. Even Gary Brooke had his moments as he was playing in a side made up of 6 or 7 very good/excellent players which would obviously be a plus and help in his development.
Same rationale for today's game would work IMO.
