U23s, Academy and Loanees

A mixed day today. The U18s did well to scratch their way past a good Leicester team

The U21s tried hard but passed up some good opportunities, losing to 'top of the league' MNU.
Darren Fletcher's 2 sons looked good. As did the Italian striker who got a hattrick right at the end, after our centre back had been very harshly red carded. LWB missed a really good opportunity, one of those where he could either slide it in the far post or an onrushing colleague would score, but he threaded the needle and put it wide.

Yang did nowt and was subbed off around the hour, for the returning Murphy, who will take a lot of minutes off Yang. Phillips had loads to do in the Stoke defence, scraping it away from goal by hook or crook. Nearly scored a header. As always, Donley sat on his arse getting frustrated.

@Bullet was it just Byfield that was missing for the U21's
He would be a big miss at the back.
Yeah, Byfield was missing, but it is quite confusing which teams these "top talents" play for nowadays, due to their young age, plus I had to watch both the U18s and U21s simultaneously so my head was spinning.

No Byfield, no Tynan Thompson.
Russell Denny had to play left back.
No Rowswell nor Ashcroft.
Olusesi was carrying the team on his own really.

How has Donley gone from being Leyton Orients star man last year to not even getting minutes off the bench this season!? I get the Championship is a step up but still..

Mikey Moore a late HT sub for a winning Rangers team, made some good passes to split the defence.

I've seen him as a Greaves'ish 'inside' forward, running with the ball and well able to score, rather than out and out winger as many talk of him.

Nice, I watched a bit of Vusk, but Heidenheim were already down to 10 men, so not a lot was happening. It was noticeable they would roll it back to Vusk quite a lot as the deepest CB, for him to decide what to do. He really is a leader on the pitch, at 18.

I also saw on Fotmob that the U21s lost on penalties in the EFL Trophy, but I couldn't find a stream and don't have the Sky app. I saw every U21 team lost i.e. MNC ARS CHE etc, only WHU won!

I think we will see a few of the U21 players who would normally play those games involved with their first teams squads this week.

So not a surprise they lost. West Ham will probably go strong just to try and get a win.

England U17 tournament to be live on ITV.

Jun'ai Byfield, Luca Williams-Barnett and Tynan Thompson in squad

Had to dash earlier, else I'd have given the detail. Thanks for dealing with it.

These are k.o. times, coverage starts 10mins before on first match. ITV4 and ITVX, subsequent knock-out games tbd.

Enjoy.

All fixtures on fifa.tv - not used it myself, but uefa.tv has proved painless when used.
