Transfer Tittle-Tattle

I don’t know how we seem to arrive at these situations but at the moment we are going into the first 2 games of the season 3 AM/forwards lighter than last year. Son, Alli, Llorente for differing reasons are u/a (I guess Llorente could still return).

So currently our AM/forward situation is:

Kane
Moura
Lamela
Eriksen (doesn’t want to be here)

Obviously Son will be back by game 3 and Parrott is showing potential but if you factor in injuries (Lamela has previous and now Alli is a concern) then we could run into issues over a 50-55 game season.

I think it’s imperative that we nail down one of these AMs this week.
It's a game a week through late September, so I wouldn't be too fussed.

I think that Sessegnon will play as a left sided attacker or a wing back if we play 3 centre halves. I don't see him playing a full back in a back 4 (yet.... and maybe not at all).

I think it depends on the opponent

I think we could see him there against teams that park the bus

I reckon we’ll land Sessegnon today and then get Lo Celso over the line on Thursday, only for our seemingly good transfer window to turn to ordinary when Eriksen leaves on a cut price deal a week later.

If we do have the opportunity to land both Lo Celso and Fernandes this window then I think Levy needs to take it, irrespective of the Eriksen situation. I think it’s now clear that Eriksen is going to leave the club and the only question is whether that is imminently for probably £40 million, January for no more than half of that or next summer for nothing. Replacing him now protects us. If it means a smallish budget next year that’s fine as we should only need two players then and not really ones in the most expensive positions either.

Yes sir, we need a replacement one way or another get them in now and bedded in - even if it comes out of next seasons budget.

Plus us going after a player forces CE hand a little - sign a new deal or we all move on.

Manchester United are close to signing Tottenham's Denmark international Christian Eriksen after 24-year-old Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes - another target for the Old Trafford club - made clear his preference to join Spurs. (AS)

Tottenham are preparing for European clubs to make cut-price bids for midfielder Eriksen if the 27-year-old is not sold before Thursday's Premier League transfer deadline. (Telegraph)

Tottenham's Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen, 32, insists he is happy at the north London club as he enters the final 12 months of his contract. (Goal.com)

Tottenham eyeing Algerian defender
Tottenham’s pursuit of a right back this summer could see them turn their attention to Nice star Youcef Atal.

The 23-year-old impressed as Algeria lifted the Africa Cup of Nations title this summer, although he got injured in the quarter-finals.

Spurs have been keeping tabs on his situation and DZ Football has claimed that he is among their targets.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring in a player in that position before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday afternoon.

fudge, this transfer window is a drag. If I read "Spurs can't agree fee with Betis" one more time I'm going to destroy something.

Plenty of time for Hoddle - despite not being old enough to see him play for Spurs - but he is wrong by claiming Barca/City are the only ones with players that can improve us.

Players we NEED to sign? Thats an interesting question.

Right now, as it stands, what do we NEED?

A right back, maybe? If Poch thinks Aurier and Foyth and KWP arent up to it?

I would argue another attacking player, to reinforce our front lines.

And....?

The only real NEEDS for us, IMO, are replacements should players depart. We are on a bit of a knife edge with Rose, VErtonghen, Alderweireld and Eriksen.

Should any of them go we really should be bringing someone in.

Otherwise this concept of NEED, well it doesnt seem that severe to me.

I happen to know this one has legs - 2.

I don't think Verts is going anywhere. He seems really settled and I'm sure we'll come to a mutually-agreeable (say 2 year) extension at some point in the next month or two

Id agree with that, he looks settled.

Im 50/50 on Alderweireld, he seems to be making all the right noises but also seems no closer to signing on.

I think we 100% lose Eriksen, most likely this summer - though if not then obviously next.

I think Alder will get his head down and walk on a free to Ajax next summer. The fact he's been given the captain's armband twice this last week suggests to me that he, Poch and Levy have cleared the air and all are comfortable with that arrangement.

I've still get a feeling that Eriksen will still to his Madrid or Spurs stance, and resign for us as Madrid haven't come for him. It does though hinge a bit on honour and his word though

There were rumours the other day he was agreeing a deal with us, but that it was dependent on a release clause (favouring him more than the club).

Not sure I buy it, to be honest. It suits him personally far more to just move for free next summer as a "worst case" scenario.

For the club it sucks, but is the reality. I suspect at this point we would rather sell him. And if we dont, itll be because we couldnt secure a replacement.

I don't think Alderweireld will go to Ajax. I think they have a wage budget that is lower than Burnley's. Toby will be playing for a club that pay him around £200k a week.

And yet when available for peanuts, nobody but Roma came in (offering less than peanuts and barely improving his current deal).

I find it incredibly strange, to be honest, because it seems a no brainer to me for half the clubs in europe to have snapped him up.

But - it would seem the market disagrees with you.

Still cant get my head around Utd giving new deals to Smalling and Jones and passing on Alderweireld, madness. Alderweireld/Maguire would transform their defence...
