Transfer Tittle-Tattle

Is anyone else getting the feeling the Eriksen to Real deal is wrapped up already and will be announced at the end of the window so that we can get our targets in early, without selling clubs knowing we have a whole heap of cash burning a hole in our pockets?

It’s not based on much, it’s just a feeling I have, seeing all these apparent chunky bids going in for N’Dombele and Lo Celso. I just can’t see our net spend being close to £200m without getting any significant sales in at some point during the window.

Feels a bit like the Bale saga all over again and we’re just delaying it for our advantage.

I think he is gone.

I am interested to see how Real get around FFP, by get around I mean lie.

Madrid are actually on quite dodgy grounds with FFP.

They've already signed Jovic, Militao, Rodrygo and Mendy for over £150m. Then there's Hazard and Pogba.

But their big problem is they don't really have many sellable assets. There's 1 or 2 solid fringe players like Kovacic, Saurez and James, but their value isn't at a particular high. Otherwise most of their outs are trying to get failing high-earners off their books - not the type that raise revenue to help balance the books.

Ndombele refuses to rule out Lyon departure

Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has refused to rule out leaving Lyon in the summer transfer window.

The France international has attracted attention from the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Emirates Marketing Project with his performances in Ligue 1.

Speaking on his future, Ndombele told Le Progres: “As I told my agents and the club, I’m not fixed yet, I have not made a decision.”

When asked if there was a possibility he could stay at Lyon, the midfielder said: “Of course, I would see myself continuing with Lyon. The club will be in the Champions League, but I have not asked the question about whether to stay or not, and I have not spoken with the new staff.”

Didn't they pull in £100 million for Ronaldo a year ago?

And maybe willing to take the same circumstances that Shaqiri accepted in moving to Liverpool. Not likely to start in big matches, but likely to get a decent enough run out and a chance to contribute to a Champions League campaign. I think that's a good call.

But shaqiri is a far better player than Rondon, scores and creates more and has played for big teams in big games. Rondon is nowhere near comparable, would you really want him as the sub in a CL knock out game. We need someone more of the ilk of Llorente than Rondon.

Be better off taking Manduzik or someone similar as back up I think.

Rondon has the same problems associated with him as Llorente...

Can only play one role so won't get much game time to build form and match fitness to be ready if needed.

29 years old so any transfer fee is unlikely to be recuperated. Won't develop so game time that could go to a talented youngster to develop could be a missed opportunity.

Yes, decent backup. I hope we have other more flexible and long term plans and a pure backup like him at best a fallback option if other possibilities don't materialize.

Ones a centre forward and ones a midfielder

So yeah Rondon would replace Llorente and someone like Shaquiri would replace a dele for example or eriksen but he isn’t as good

Origi scores 3 goals from 3 shots in the CL...
not played for form or fitness, just impact

How do you explain that???

Tottenham have joined Manchester United in the hunt to sign Norwich enforcer Ben Godfrey, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that Godfrey, 21, has blown away Spurs’ scouts this season with his superb performances for the Championship title-winners, and the London club’s talent spotters believe that he could star in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield.

Godfrey is a centre-back by trade but has been used in the defensive midfield role by Daniel Farke at times and Spurs scouts have been impressed by the former York City ace’s displays in that area.

The Mail adds that Man United are also hot on the heels of the England Under-20 international after Rio Ferdinand recommended him to the Old Trafford giants.

Good move for Tottenham?

Spurs need strengthening in almost all parts of their squad in what promises to be a big summer this year, and adding Godfrey to their ranks will certainly be a clever move by Pochettino and his recruitment staff.

Godfrey was superb for Norwich last term, appearing 36 times across all competitions in both the defence and the midfield.

Tottenham could do with signing more homegrown talent and although the York-born ace is bound to cost a fair bit of cash, he has great potential and is likely to be a star in the next few years.

This is Futbol rating 7/10

Likely to happen?

Man United are more than likely in pole position to sign Godfrey at this stage due to Ferdinand mentoring the 21-year-old and potentially having an influence over where he will head this summer.

However Spurs can guarantee more stability in the management, a more attractive style of play, better team-mates and of course, Champions League football.

It’s too soon to say for definite where Godfrey will head, but there’s a good chance that he won’t even consider leaving Carrow Road when staying put there for another year might be the best option for him.

BERGWIJN TIPPED FOR SPURS MOVE

PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn will hope to impress watching Premier League sides when the Netherlands face England in the UEFA Nations League tomorrow, live on Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old is wanted by Tottenham, according to Sky Sports News, and while Manchester United are also reported to be interested, the view in Holland is that north London could be his most likely destination.

"Spurs are following him," Rik Elfrink, a journalist who covers PSV for Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, told Sky Sports. "They have talked to his agent and it has been said that there has already been an offer of 40m euros. PSV deny that, but a transfer is probably not far off.”

Bergwijn has shone this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists for PSV and forming part of an exciting young Netherlands side led by Ronald Koeman. Find out more about Bergwijn – and the rest of the Netherlands’ new generation – by reading our feature HERE.

Variance. Statistical anomaly. Luck. Chance. A good, but not great player being clinical at key moments even though out seemed unlikely. Pick your terminology.

I doubt you're saying that match fitness and form aren't valid constructs, so not sure what your point is.

Sometimes players play really well or are clinical in front of goal without match fitness, but the likelihood his higher with match fitness. Exceptions to that is to be expected, but I'd rather we base our plans on what is more likely rather than relying on what is unlikely.

Finally Origi is a player capable of playing several positions. Arguably that has helped him. He hasn't been just a direct replacement for Firmino. I think that's gotten him more game time rather than less. He hasn't developed as Liverpool hoped, but is still relatively young. He could develop further, if not he'll net them a decent transfer fee if they decide to get rid.

Even though he hasn't developed as they hoped I would argue he's been a better signing than Llorente. For some of the reasons outlined above.

Interesting viewpoint

I agree form and fitness are paramount but the key issue is the ability have an impact

Llorente has managed that in quite a few games and I believe Rondon would too

I'm more talking about the pedigree of the player than positions, Rondon hasn't set the world alight at West Brom or Saudi Sportswashing Machine (could be argued service was poor) and wasn't even in the first choice 11 all season. I'd rather get someone with experience who's won a few things into the squad.
