Transfer thread

I notice the Gordon rumours are out again.

I wonder if Conte sees him as a potential for RWB. Has great delivery, is quick, strong and can be coached into the role.

We do need homegrown players. I think on current count we're already 3 players over, even before lenglet

Time ticking, surely we have to be close to offloading lo celso, Ndombele, Winks...

From the value of the high profile transfers...seems the transfer market continues to be in a weak state, looks easier to buy than to sell. At least we're doing well on the buy side.

I think it'll be a trickle down.
Less liquidity (ok, not true liquidity - but you get the point!), so once the "poorer" teams cash in, they can then take the players from the richer clubs at slightly reduced prices because those clubs know they have to move players on, even if it's for a loss.

The transfer or the position?

I’m thinking back to the victims game where he had to work up and down (plenty of defensive work) and was pretty good going both ways against a team notoriously strong in wide areas.

Both really. I don't see us signing someone in the hope that we can convert their position - its too much of a risk, particularly given Conte wants us to be able to hit the ground running.

In terms of him generally (and ignoring any change of position), I don't see him fitting either Conte's 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 formations

Obviously he's young and HG, but not sure thats enough

Fair dos.

Looking back - MD was really coming good tbf. Superior to what I’ve seen from Spence imo.

What are we missing now?

Some British made talent. More guile down the right wing? Another CB. Possibly a mercurial attacking midfielder.

We should be able to put the pressure on the top two. Who are the players who can make a difference to us now?

We've got all summer to offload players
I think it's possible that signings will be held back until we understand what we can get from a couple of the bigger value sales.

Which means starting preseason without the new boys.

Assuming we paid the entirety up-front.
Which we won't have done

I think that's almost certainly true. Though we may have paid a bit more upfront than we otherwise would have, could have made deals more attractive to selling clubs.

Even if we've only paid a fraction up front three total fee will have to be paid and I don't think we can put ourselves in a position where we need another cash injection to cover those fees and make other deals in future transfer windows. So it's still a somewhat reasonable benchmark for how much we can spend.

Two centre backs for me. Particularly if more is a backup or even rotation option to Davies at LCB ends up being the LCB signing.

RWB and then perhaps a bit of a wait and see approach? Look for younger talents and any particularly favorable deal that comes along.

True and prudent, though it seems the small-print of the recently announced cash injection from ENIC (of which only £100 million has apparently been drawn down so far) actually allows for up to £300 million to be put in by them before 2027

Other than Dortmund and Bayern no team would finish top 10 in the PL and some would struggle in the Championship.
And the players being talked about play in the first XI of Dortmund.

Using your logic only the PL and top have of La Liga are not poor quality leagues. So no one from abroad is worth signing outside of about ten teams

Not at all, what I said is Bellingham is overhyped because he's English. If he were Slovakia or Estonian and putting in the performances he has been he would not attract the attention of English clubs in the same way and would probably be regarded as a "potentially good player" not as a star.
