Transfer thread

They lost their best centre back and their 3rd best
They now have NO striker proven at the top level in this league (lukaku is proven)
But Lukaku wasn’t what they needed and added almost next to nothing, no different from us selling Ndombele and Lo Celso.

Except they didn’t play for us
Lukaju did (44 games) and was occupying teams even if Chelsea didn’t play to his strengths
Now they have no one… did you see them yesterday?
They haven’t a couple right now and that’s despite spending mega money
The need at least one striker, another CB and arguably another right sided option

I think their window will depend on what they do from now until the end of it. But at the same time, so far they have done what looks like good business. Just a starting point where some good business was never going to be enough, bit of a mess.

Kind of cool to see us (reportedly) target Udogie at this time. Some ofther teams scrambling for first team upgrades, paying over the top at times. Meanwhile we're in control, trying to get a longer term deal done.

Don't think it means we're done for the here and now, but probably need to get some outgoings sorted and perhaps be a bit opportunistic towards the end of the window. But doing our thing, not stressed, already so much good business already done.

We seem to have put ourselves in a position of relative power, provided we can sell the players we need to to make space - i think we've bought the essentials required to keep Conte happy and to get the season started well and now we can relax and make moves at the end of the window whilst others are scrambling around - Maddison as an example (no need to argue the specifics of him as a target) we can now turn the screw on Leicester should they need to sell to cover any incomings, same with other targets at clubs where they either need to make ends meet or risk losing the players a year down the line at a much lower price - i still think we're in for a couple of reasonably big incomings IF the deals make sense come the end of the window.

If we want Maddison (for example) and we can afford him… he (the player) would do everything to make it happen
We’re clearly in the upwards curve currently and it’s so key
United for example seem to be on the downwards one and need to change their momentum. Players are turning them down whilst being happy to move (different to Bastoni)

Chelsea look like they're going big for fofana. If so they won't need to sellmaddison.

Maddison might want to be sold looking at what's happening there, but it's a valid point - was just an example anyway

was listening to talkbrick this weekend and they think Leicester are fudged financially due to the covid impact. They need to sell in a big way apparently, no one could understand the schmeical fee of £1m

Old? Short contact length remaining? Showing respect to a long standing player maybe??

The Boehly fella has shifted some smart operators from the backroom team to basically have a whirl at playing FM himself.

It's a risky game and likely a steep learning curve in the football world. Tuchel will get players, whether they are the ones he wants is another question. He is a very good manager, and the one person who (currently) remains at the club that can hold them together and still achieve success.
They need to realise that.

My guess is the spending spree is front loaded, private equity are not going to bank roll heavy spending beyond this and probably the Jan window, and certainly not consider a £100m a year write off (ala Roman) as any kind of strategy.

United should be a warning to them.

They borrowed £800m recently

As he proved with the level of interest and eventual sale price, far from writing off £100m a year, Abramovich would actually have made significant money from his overall investment in Chelsea.

About £500m profit on £2bn invested over the years. Not an investment most business people would make. After inflation you're probably not breaking even.

Ok. I stand corrected, that's how they're going to play it:rolleyes:

A toppy price as a starting point to boot.
