I listened to a recent interview with Hojbjerg. He's ambitious, doesn't seem unintelligent and is also aware that he maybe didn't conduct himself as well as he could earlier in his career. It's hard to picture him choosing to join a club that is definitely not in Europe next season and is currently around the same level as Southampton.
No matter how smoothly Ancelotti may speak, the upward trajectory is harder to plot from Goodison than it is from Tottenham.
And if some of this very recent rumour flurry has been some sort of pressure game from Southampton to get us to lodge a higher bid than we were considering, I can only picture Levy chuckling "amateurs" as he sips a brandy tonight.
