Tottenham Hotspur are not looking at expensive older targets such as Sporting Lisbon's' Adrien Silva or former Manchester United star Javier Hernandez,
football.london understands.
Reports in Portugal have linked
Spurs this week with a £26m move for 28-year-old Sporting midfielder Silva while speculation has surrounded a move for 29-year-old Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez to provide more firepower alongside Harry Kane.
Many pundits have called for the
Lilywhites to make a big move in the market for an established international help guide their young team over the line to the title at the third time of asking.
However,
football.london understands that
Tottenham will not veer away this summer from the model that has served them well in recent years, bringing in young talented players and allowing manager Mauricio Pochettino to develop them, alongside the older heads already at the club.
That has worked to perfection with the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier. While there have been some question marks over the acquisitions of young players such as Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, the model is still seen as the way to go as even those young players can be developed or at least retain much of their sell-on value.
The one major blot on the club's recent transfer copybook was the £30m joint club record purchase of 27-year-old Moussa Sissoko from Saudi Sportswashing Machine.
The France international has struggled to find his feet at Spurs, been derided by the fans and has spoken this month about considering his options this summer with the club reportedly looking to move him on.
Tottenham learned an expensive lesson with that transfer - although chairman Daniel Levy may yet be able to get most if not all of their money back on the player.
That means Spurs will stick with their youthful player transfer model this summer with Monaco's Thomas Lemar one player that interests them.
Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon is another player interesting the club and Liverpool have already given up the chase for the 17-year-old as they believe he has his heart set on a move to
Tottenham.
However they face competition for the 21-year-old's signature and difficulty in the fact that the Ligue 1 champions have already sold another midfielder Bernardo Silva for £42.5m to Emirates Marketing Project.
Pochettino also has a group of young academy graduates at the club that he wants to develop, having told
football.london last month that Cameron Carter-Vickers, Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters would all get more game time under him next season.
So Tottenham may spend big money during this summer transfer window, but it will certainly not be on an older player.
