Transfer speculation

We get first refusal apparently

And if we only brought one player then bale would be that one for me

You said "apparently"? What does that actually mean in reality? You heard it from a guy who read it on Newsnow? The likes of united, Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea would easily be ready to offer him £300K plus. Even if we has first refusal we would have a problem matching that don't you think? And remember Bale has never said or done anything since he left to suggest we hold a special place in his heart.

It was reported at the time

Ive never seen his contract os can't actually confirm as you would expect

Wouldn't mater what anyone else can offer wages wise if we agree a fee as they can't in theory discuss wages with him

And to answer the last bits

I wonder why Levy inserted the first refusal option into the contract:) why would you do that if you never imagined that sometime in the future you would like the player back;)

Levy is going to make it happen. We have the team, we have the manager, we have the training centre, we have the new stadium soon. Everything is in place.

welcome back Gareth

I remember it being said at the time too but I struggle to see how this would be enforceable in law. Presumably, we would have to match any other offer and the player would want to move to us.

Of course

But they still owe us for Bale too as it was a deal over instalments

Arsenal signed Ozil and Sanchez from Madrid and Barca when they hadn't won anything in a long time... Why couldnt we actually sign a player from one of those clubs thats still at the top of his game

And before anyone mentions money dont forget we do have a lot more money now due to the TV deals

I'm going to try not to think about Bale returning to Spurs given he'd be exactly what we need and given it would be a huge statement of intent. That sort of thing doesnt happen to Spurs

We have it all, except money, I'm afraid, and you won't get these established top top players without silly cash.

Dani Alves would be a bloody magnificent signing - still close to his peak, and possessed of years of experience at the top, playing in ultra-competitive sides.

Couldn't imagine a better first-choice RB in the Prem if Walker does go, to be honest. Couldn't imagine a better mentor for KWP, either. :)

He's be an amazing signing. So it probably won't happen .:p

Actually it would matter because irrespective of both clubs agreeing a deal if the player does not agree wages there will simply be no deal which means having first option is irrelevant. Secondly if Madrid set the price for Bale this summer for £90m Utd, Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea could all match that and as we cannot it rules our first option as meaningless.

As for Bale, he apparently earns 350k a week after tax (pounds, not euros) as his base salary at Madrid - including image rights and sponsors, he's apparently looking at an income of 150 million pounds from now until 2022.

We'd have to stop building the new stadium to bring him back, pretty much. And it's precisely two days too late for that now. :p

That with UK tax would be about £600k a week roughly

Not even United could pay that

"After Tottenham make first ‘miserly’ offer, their second bid is somehow even lower"

http://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-make-first-miserly-offer-second-bid-somehow-even-lower/

See, now *this* is more like the Tottenham I know. None of this wildly exciting, elite-sounding Bale/Alves clap trap - this is just a story about us offering 3m euros for Pau, being laughed off (because his release clause is 7m)...

...and returning with a munificent, gold-plated second offer of....

...2m.

*Lower* than the previous one.

Yeah, I think Madrid won't exactly have to worry about us swooping in and blazing wads of cash at them for Bale any time soon. :D

Even if we could afford him, I'm worried about Bale's injury record. We'd be paying a club record for a player that may only be fit for 15-20 games a season.
