Transfer speculation

Who, out of who we have been linked with, do you like and is there anyone else you think would be good/suitable additions?

id be lying if i said i had much knowledge of players outside of the premier league tbh mate - or even that i pay attention to who we have been linked with. Of the English links id be happy with either Mahrez or Barkley - Mahrez would obviously push for a starting place if Poch gets him performing to his peak but i don't really know how realistic that signing is. Barkley would be good cover for AM and CM and has potentially to go up a level or two (imo - don't want to get involved in another how good is Barkley debate...) previously we were linked with Zaha and would have liked him in the squad as an option too at the right price. only defender i know we have been linked with is the Argentine fella, which obviously i have no clue about, would have liked Maguire or Kean if they were ever realistic. that lad at Porto sounds like he ticked all the boxes for a Walker replacement, not sure whats happened with that one?

I think it's a fairly well spoken of amongst the media (Sky pundits especially) and other fans that our first eleven is one of, if not the strongest in the league. It certainly was last season before the others strengthened ££££.

However it's our bench that let's us down in comparison to our rivals. We just don't have the players there who are consistent and good enough to do a regular job without us looking considerably weaker. Janssen still needs to learn and grow, Winks is v.promising but his inexperience could well show, Wimmer is inconsistent and seemingly wants out, Davies is decent enough but is no Rose. Lamela frustrates more than he provides. Arguably Son is the only one there who doesn't weaken us. If we had to bring two or three of those players for any considerable time I think we'd see a drop off in performance and points, especially at Wembley!

And in there lies the problem. We're not going to splash out the big money of this Summer for players (and their wages) who are just going to sit on the bench. So therefore the names we're linked with are of much less ilk than our rivals.

City's bench is going to be outstanding this season, as I just can't see how they'll fit all of Sane, De Bruyne, Aguero, Sterling, Jesus, Bernado, D.Silva, Toure, Fernandinho, Luiz, Walker, Danilo, Mendy and Gundogan into first team spots!! I guess...

Walker -- Stones -- Kompany -- Mendy
---------- Toure ------- D.Silva ----------
---- Bernado -- De Bruyne -- Sane ----
------------------ Jesus ------------------

Which leaves the likes of Aguero, Otamendi, Sterling, Danilo, Gundogan and Fernandinho on the bench!!? That gives them some serious options throughout the season without really weakening the team.
Emirates Marketing Project do indeed look to have a very strong squad. I can forsee them having a few problems as the season goes on with players unhappy at not getting a starting place.... I can't see the players you listed above as being bench players happy to assume that roll for even half a season, let alone longer than that.

I was listening to Graham Hunter's inside view earlier. Crazy stuff. Suggesting that Neymar wants out of Barca, may go to PSG for silly money and he wants Coutinho to go and be his Brazilian bezzie mate and Klopp has been planning for that for 18 months, says £160m Mbappe could choose between Real Madrid and Emirates Marketing Project as they are the only ones with that money (or Cheatski?), Real would need to guarantee a starting berth i.e. sell Bale to Man Utd, whereas Emirates Marketing Project would sell Aguero but that still wouldn't guarantee a starting berth as Jesus is so good and they have so much forward talent... just another planet really. W*nkers. Of course they should smash us up in the league...Jeez... different planet, all swapping megastars and trying to sell megastars to shoehorn in some more megastars.

Also said Morata was a special talent, Conte has nurtured him for years, bit of a cheat but not a total scumbag like Costa.

My friend is adamant that we are about to make a huge bid for aguero ... player is happy to join .... Can't be true. So desperate i posted it here just in case anyone else has also been to the Looney bin

Is he actually any good? Previously you seem to have wanted us to stay away from players who play for teams who sit deep and play on the break. What is different here?

I just think he's got a bit more intelligence about him than the average bog standard tricky AM. He's also got the close control to operate in the tight spaces. I think he'll be getting up past Raheem Sterling's level quite soon

Mind you, I used to think the same about Nathan Redmond, but his career has stalled.

If we're not able to compete for the Bernardo Silvas of this world, I think Gray could be our Eric Dier type signing (i.e. reasonably priced, under the radar, with big potential) for AM

He's got a foot like a traction engine when on the rare occasions he lets fly. Cheaper alternative to Mahrez and younger/faster.

Sissoko is a hard one to summarise really - I wonder whether having missed out on Mane and Wijnaldum Levy thought he better come up with something to avoid tinkling off Poch - it's the only straw I can clutch at on that one really or maybe he was indeed a 3rd choice target... fact is though he was trusted/used a lot by Pochettino over the season and were he not in the squad we'd have had to have used a player in his place that presumably wasn't as highly rated by the manager.

I think you are right. To be fair, it wouldn't be a surprise if Poch actually did think that he could make Sissoko a much better and more consistent player, but it just didn't work out for whatever reason. I haven't yet totally written off Sissoko (we have plenty of examples of players that have performed much better in their second year) but I think the reason why he hasn't worked out is because of his attitude which is a lot harder to change. This is complete conjecture on my part though.

I think we have to just realise that buying a player is risky and it is not always going to work out. This time it did not work with a really large outlay, but mistakes happen and I am sure we will rectify it in due course.
