***Tottenham v Brentford OMT***

Did you need Thomas Frank to come in and announce early doors that 'we will lose football matches'?
I did not.
For someone as apparently detached from reality as you like to paint me, I was keenly aware we would not go unbeaten in a season.
It was utterly unnecessary.
I quite appreciate honestly and pragmatism so I didn't see it as unnecessary. Look at this summer with the signings we have made some were talking about winning the league or challenging for it. It needed a performance like today to bring them back down to earth. If RDZ comes out now and says something along the lines of this is going to be a difficult season, we are a new team and we will win some and lose some I wouldn't think less of him. I'd quite respect the honesty because its suggests he has a plan to maximise what he has.

Berg needs to be moved on
Moore is nowhere near PL level

We need forwards

This season was always going to be about recovery and first steps.

You left our Richi. He is simply nowhere near good enough. He’s not even a reasonable deep squad option.

I watched the first half and couldn't believe Tonali is a £100m player, and that van Hecke is a £50m player. Mikey Moore is not ready, Gallagher is useless, and Richy decided to be the version of him that's always falling over. Next match needs to be Fernandes, Bergvall, Gray in midfield. Need some energy and talent on the ball

Bergvall was absolutely awful today. He should be sold.

Indeed, De Zerbi was not happy about the tour and did feel it was not ideal. I have to think we won't be doing something quite like that again under him? Or is the 'business' of football now so dominant that the coach has to STFU and take it???
I think things like tours are probably above his head and he came in way too late to have had any infuence upon it. If next season's preseason isn't already booked he might be having words right now.

But even besides the tour itself, we were always a bit undercooked, Maddison, Kudus and Kulu, VDV, Porro and even Solanke have all basically missed preseason and these are players besides Solanke that we dont really have able replacements for.

I am most certainly someone who needed a little bit of reality. And you know what? I got it.
Equally, I did not spend my summer looking at all the things which could go wrong and sitting on them. I recognised them, but I chose to focus on what RDZ is selling me, and his sales pitch had me hooked. So I have spent the summer getting excited about where we can go with this manager and where we might go.
I could've taken your route from the start and guess what? We'd still both be in the place we are tonight.

You should listen to his post-match presser, be interested to hear your take. I thought it was great as it served all masters, including the truth, and stated all realities.

Agree on Bergvall, if anyone offers £46 million again I’d bite their hand off.
I don't know if I think he needs to be sold but I do think he should not be starting games or even the first name off the bench. I think you get more consistent performances from Bentancur and Sarr as it stands. He is young so maybe it will come with time but as it stands his profile is way out of kilter with his ability and performances.

Only caught the last 35 today and it was dogbrick. Absolute dogbrick and very disappointing.

Here’s where I’m at on it though. Football is too knee jerk. Single games mean little in reality but become defining for a lot of fans. Even the best teams get bummed every now and then. Personally, I think we should be judging after 10 games or so. Give RDZ a chance and give the players a chance to settle in.

Very disappointing start but it’s just one game, it’s just 2.6% of the league season. Long, long way to go and I have faith in this manager.

There were bits of it I liked, but essentially he said that he knew we weren’t ready and he was surprised by how poor we were (which are actually contradictory statements when analysed).

Not sure that’s on too different a level to, “We are going to lose matches.”

And that was actually the best bit!
