Agree. I would usually prefer Lennon in for Sandro, for the exact reason you mention - that Modric doesn't get forward enough (though today I'm happy not throwing in an unfit Lennon out of desperation).
The key to making it work will be playing possession football in their half of the pitch, so that whole CM trio can come forward as a unit. It's how this formation was effective against Norwich and Swansea in December, and Bolton in midweek.
