Glad to see Bentaleb and Chadli back in the squad. Really think Bentaleb cannot play the DM role. Dier or Dembele yes but not him. He can be box to box but his game isn't suited to being that shield player that Dier is. And he can be judged unfairly due to this.
Bentelab has an innate lack of ability to use his eyes!!! He thinks he is telepathic
He tried a drag back twice tonight and got caught and also played a tinkle poor cross field pass to Davies that almost got caught out
For him to get back into the side properly he has to actually develop and awareness of what's around him and where he is on the pitch. The talent is there but he needs the experience and brains to match
Great performance from a number of players (N'Jie, Carroll, Lamela, Onamah) and good performances from the rest. Bentaleb and Loris made the only errors that I could really remember and I was getting worried by their corners.
One of the most pleasing things for me was that the team had a chance to practice how to close out a game. I think we were a little too lax in the second half, but getting that fourth killed Monaco. This team needs to find that balance of relentless press, energy etc.... and then closing out a game and conserving energy when we have gone into a big lead. Today would have been a big learning point.
I'm also less worried about "burn-out" now. Clinton had his first really good game in a Spurs shirt. Onamah had a really good game and Carroll just showed me that we need to sign him up to a new contract. I also thought Trippier was quite good and Son and Lamela showed that they can alternate up front and play the striker role quite well!
I know I'm probably being a bit OTT, but forgive me. I love European games; the atmosphere, the all white kit, the light of WHL against the dark sky. It really is a thing of beauty. As @Raziel said in another thread, for all yous out there that think this is not a competition that we should be focusing on remember that cup competitions is what our club is all about. We've won this trophy twice. We've won more trophies in Europe than that lot down the road.
I have not been this excited about our team since those three seasons (09/10, 10/11 and 12/13) where it felt like we could beat anyone. This time, however, I don't think many teams can beat us.

Good game. Made it look easy, despite resting quite a lot of our biggest stars. Thought the line-up from Poch was smart and the subs were good too.
Full debut for Onomah, first goal for Carroll, Clinton looking good, Wimmer looking solid alongside Alderweireld, both our "backup" full backs looking alright, Bentaleb back, Chadli back. Good night all around.
Anyone still think we have problems with squad depth other than perhaps the striker position?
Come on... He's 21, getting his first minutes in a Spurs shirt since August after what must have been a very frustrating injury period for him, we were 3-0 up at home in a game in a game where we were through regardless of the result and a draw would see us top the group.
He tried a bit too much early on, I don't think it's a symptom of an underlying problem. It's the kind of thing that happens in a situation like this.
Thought he grew into the game very well. Settled down and started playing his game. When Monaco looked a bit threatening after their subs and goal he quickly got on the ball and played through their pressure with the kind of ease we've come to expect from him. A lot of nice touches, a lot of quick "easy" passing, quite a bit of purposeful passing too.
Great to have him back.
I disagree as it wasn't the first time he has done that sort of thing ... Our only league defeat this season came because of a brain fart from him and he was fit and well.... It isn't isolation.
There is a player there but as I say he needs the experience and he needs time. He has youth on his side and in sure he will get plenty of game time still this season. It's great to have him back as it gives us a bigger better squad
From the http://asmforum.fr/ forum: (translated)
"Tonight is the victory of football altogether.
A coach was on one side with a philosophy and commitment to the game that his team advanced all the weeks ends in a coherent tactical schematic which has the consequence of having a single team player by changing players.
In short, a coach who does his job.
And on the other, it was coach who has no desire to play and only relies on the success and individuality. Problem his team was back to the wall tonight and in these cases it does not play because she never plays, she thinks only to outwit the opponent (and again) and counts only on success. If in addition you added the fact that the guy changes jobs every game where plays only once 3, what can you expect?
At the emirates was a miracle. But our Portuguese did not understand.
Tonight he is reaping what he has sown, like other coaches who spit at the mouth of the football, one year you surf on luck, the one after you make laugh. Marseille or Lille recently did the same, and this evening he ate a college eà jerked the B team of Tottenham.
But it is only fair, and if we continue not to play, we will continue to take branlées.
Because even if we lost the players we still have a great owner in league 1, which is capable of much better. A good coach would come out of this pool by crushing Anderlecht and quarabag.
I'm sorry but lemar, el sharaawy, silva, ect .. rony lopes you can play ball with and widely, and this desire not Quif game has even escape the fans not the fault of the leaders but unfortunately the coach in place is bad.
We played better in the league in 2 Simone had a crap team and totally out of whack! That is to say."

Really reminds me of the night we were schooled on our own pitch v Benfica and how we were worried about a lack of a discernible playing style. Now we seem to be the team we so wanted to be, and other teams now recognise just how good we have become. Important to realise just how lucky we are to have Pochettino in charge.
