Toby Alderweireld

Doesn't sound like someone who wants out?

It going to come down to how much he values stability and first-team football vs money. He'll have multiple teams coming in for him from Italy, Germany, Spain, maybe PSG and obviously England so I can't see how we'll make him the best offer financially. He'll need to want to stay for other reasons (stability, familiarity, relationship with other players/fans etc) so its really difficult to asses unless you know the individual in question

He might also be attracted by, say, living in Spain or Italy for 3-4 years - not the most perverse idea.....

He's been making this kind of statement for about 2 seasons now and you get players signing new contracts/ kissing the badge etc and then putting in transfer requests the next month.

Id love for him to sign a new contract but I do wonder whether the boat has passed. Hopefully not. I think a lot of factors will come into play and the main thing I want from him this summer is respect if possible. Don't say stuff like this and then go to Chelsea or arsenal. Don't say stuff like this and then wait until 2 weeks before the transfer window closes to move. Move promptly, keep us informed so we can plan and preferably move abroad if you can. That's all I ask of him.

Was he injured or rested?

Regardless, we had a good enough team to win today so no excuse, but just curious as to why Toby wasn't in the squad at all today...

Best centre back pairing we've had for many a year is Toby and Jan, when fit they should always play, Sanchez and Foyth despite potential are unreliable and prone to errors. Don't think Liverpool would've rested VVD with a 3 week break coming up.

Yeah seems a very odd decision in such a MASSIVE game, with a 3 week break coming up, and Sanchez having had a major fudge up in our last PL game.

Of course ideally we could rely on Sanchez, but we all know he is still young and prone to mistakes / the odd poor game - certainly more than Toby is.

This is part of the season Poch starts his cull for next season, maybe wrong but he did it with Walker he hardly picked him fir the last five or six games of the season knowing he be going and not staying but saying that we're not in a position to to leave people on the side lines he should be playing every week i believe...

Hmm, you wonder then if we'll start to see Eriksen dropped too?
Me neither...would be far more risky than Walker..

Bonkers decision and smacks of arrogance from Poch, which I feel filtered down to the team.

Tbf, Toby not been immnue to lapses himself, and the team put out was more than good enough to win that match...on paper...

Like @galeforce says Sanchez's pace was a valuable asset to have. Plus Toby has played in as many of our howlers as anyone...

Hopefully we can trust this guy in the run in considering he’s probably already agreed to go to manure.

Im sure he’ll want them playing CL next season.....

There is only one thing driving Toby to Man U. It's not the Champions League participation.

Chance of winning trophies? From your posts on here it does seem like it isn't your thing, but strangely enough there are those that are not so opposed to the idea..

Trophies, OK I don't think he's thinking FA or League cup as a motivation. I think if he wants to win trophies he would be looking at City (doubt they need or want him), not United.
He's looking for a big payday and I can't blame him. United if true is a good option.

The league cup and FA cup are good fun. City love them as gives their squad players some games.

Also the use of so many weakened teams has totally devalued both cups.
